Glass Top Broke - Any Alternative?

Hello folks, last night, my P1S top glass slid off and shattered.

I really don’t want to buy another glass. What alternative would I have not to buy another glass? Pexiglass? Would the chamber heat bother the plexiglass? I only print PLA, PETG, and just started to use TPU. That’s it.

Cheers

the prusa core one uses plexiglass, no issues with heat

Why don’t you want to buy another glass? Something that is known to fit perfectly and requires no jerry rigging.

Plexiglass would be fine, you would just need to go a little thicker so it is stiff enough. My worry would not be for heat, but having a stable surface to put stuff on top.

They’re surprisingly cheap, and come up pretty often on eBay.

Hi there,

No other input than that I broke my top glass yesterday as well  . I would recommend getting another original though.. Why invent the wheel?

True, and it could break again. All I did was lift the glass, and it slid through. My mind was in the AMS cover that is hinged. I just don’t want to deal with that again just to look “OEM pretty”. Thanks though!

Since you generally only print PLA,PETG,TPU you might just consider an overly “fancy” riser for your P1S and skip the glass. Vented risers are the cheat code to heat management for cool printing.

I dont have a specific one to recommend but something shaped like this Is glass-neutral [aka its not using the glass as structure]

You get to put the AMS on top still, and maybe you can model a quick cover if you dont like open air from the top. But openable vents on the top is such an underrated feature; nature guarantees your success, heat rises yo

Have seen lots of risers. Guess now would be a good time to print me one; something kinda simple, add a pexiglass and hinge it.

Haven’t used it so can’t ssay good or bad, just gently throwing it out there
