Supersize benchy, X1C, PLA Basic, all default settings. Note that the print doesn’t switch from glassy to matte in a single layer, it happens at a different point in each layer. What’s going on here? And is there a way to get it to print like the bottom part through the whole print?
In the preview, you can select different views in the upper right. Select “speed” and I bet you will see the same pattern as on your print…
Take also a look to this:
Hello,
It’s due to the speed & flow changes and being you are printing a part like the 3dbenchy and having areas that you would not want to change the temp higher I would just slow the outer wall speed down to 30 - 80 mm/s range you will have to test your filament out.
This way you would know on overhangs what you need your outer wall speed at on these types of parts with overhangs and getting the finish to be closer to what you want.

What’s the “proper” finish here then, the matte or the glossy? Which is under-melted?

Your basic pla will be glossy as the speed increases the color will go more matte looking you can also change nozzle temps and it will affect the look of the filaments too.
They do have matte pla filaments if you want none glossy looking parts.
