Anyone know of any pre-fab kits where I can stack 2 AMS units one above the other that will have enough clearance to open the lid on the bottom unit?
People rave about certain IKEA stuff but I have not had a need. There is an IKEA about 1.5 hours from me in Charlotte, NC.
Alternatively, can building something on gliding rails similar to a drawer where I can pull it out to open (and not have it tip over) while being beefy enough not to induce shake driven imperfections in a print.
I asked the original question and started Google searching and found this.
For those who are unaware, a good Diablo miter saw blade for aluminum will cut 2020 like a hot knife through butter.
I have parts on order to make the stand in this link.
Uses 2020 extrusion materials and meets my criteria.
Not pre-fab but pluses far outweigh the minuses and by using that 2020 extrusion it makes it extremely modular.
My AMS 2 arrived a few hours ago and I was expecting…I’m not sure. The advertisement literature talks about the “Airtight enclosure” but looks like an old school enclosure lid with maybe an improved O-ring around the perimeter.
Does have a dedicated air intake and outlet.
They have done away with the dessicant holders in the bottom cover. Vent holes still there but no lid to be removed.
Still working rack options in my brain right now. Once I saw how easy it is to cut the extrusion beams that really opened up my options.
I picked up this stackable shelf at Walmart for about $26: It’s like a custom fit for the AMS. The lids will open to about straight up, and the bottom of the shelf above even holds it open. If you want to open it further you have to shift the AMS a little bit.
I use the Home Depot Trinity baker’s rack shelf at 36" x 14".
I actually use two that I put together to support the 4 AMS, two Sovol SH02, two PolyDryer and a bunch of cereal boxes.
A single rack gives you three shelves that you can space enough to open the AMS units.
1 AMS and one Sovol can sit on the same shelf but the PTFE tubes on the top need more space.
I tried to add a picture, but it won’t let me add pictures.
I ended up going with this from Amazon. Many of the prefab shelves didn’t allow the lid to open fully. The shelves are adjustable in height, so it worked perfectly!
I could have built or printed one, but didn’t want to wait.
The problem I have with ready-made solutions is that they tend to have too much height and too much width for each shelf.
I saw some examples of where an individual re-purposed a set of wide hanging file folder cabinets to put AMS’s in that I thought was very clever.
The footprint dimensions of an AMS 2 Pro and a regular AMS for that matter are not very tall at 224mm / 10" tall with some added height caused by the drawer glides mounted on each side.
Additionally, I have an adjustable worktop that raises and lowers to allow me to raise and lower the complete rack to a good working level.
There is a model file one can print the parts to hold the AMS from but I am tweaking the rear part (blue) that in it’s original version is too narrow for the cables to fit in their sockets. The one in the picture is my first tweak and you can see it is still a touch too small but V3 is currently printing.
