Greetings to everyone, from Italy

I’m new to this world of 3D printing, I enjoy creating something to share on makerworld, and hence my question for this topic, how do certain users have so many followers and likes? Is it so easy to create a community? Despite being satisfied with my hobby, I notice that it is very difficult to gain followers, any advice and tips? Thank you all

Time is your friend as is luck.

It took ages for me to gain a following, and a few models that did well, one really well.

It also helped to get a featured model or two and some models in the featured collections.

If you aim for success at the expense of producing something you are proud of and enjoy making you will likely fail.

If you aim to share your work and enjoy making things, that usually shows and people will want to know what comes next.

Use the new community tab feature sparingly as people hate spam.

Welcome!

It’s a combo of things wrapped in time and luck, haha.

I find this generally to be true. If you’re targeting niche areas, you may not get as much attention, but I can promise you within those niche areas you’ll get a lot of people excited still.

Beyond that though, it helps to put yourself out there in various ways beyond this website. I’m not good with social media at all (sorry), but it has helped. I have a youtube video where I’ve posted a couple of videos to show off my wares, I’ve announced releases on facebook, the bambu discord, and I post up pictures on Instagram too. I’m one step above grandma’s ability to use social media. So yeah, you don’t have to be super savvy to use those tools to help kick up a little bit of extra dust.

Also, hello From the USA. I’m over in Oregon, enjoying a rainy morning.

Two options imo:

  • Some makers do a lot of promotion outside of makerworld and will run very active accounts on IG, youtube, Facebook, etc… So a lot of work, but potential for a lot of followers quickly.

  • I don’t do that because I’m allergic to most social media and I am usually not a fan of self-promotion unless I’m especially happy with the results. In this case it’s a game of time and patience.

many followers have a lot of likes as they started when makerworld was new, Ive started a bit later meaby 3 months after the community started and its harder to become more popular imo. A lot of models that become popular most of the time are kids stuff and articulated models imo. my cousin and my friends did accounts as well with very nice models and dont get as much downloads, meaby advertise… youtube idk hard to say some get more luck then others i guess

just saw your profile omg 660models thats a lot :stuck_out_tongue: you pratice 3d cad or model for fun ?

I do it from my deathbed as I await my impending death as I am dying. It helps me make the incredibly boring time as I am required to be in bed 23+ hours a day.

I am comfortable with my immediate expiration date and am open about it.

I have no formal training, I only started uploading models in February.

Before that, I made models that solved problems I had around the home.

Thank you for asking, I am always happy to respond to questions.

some of your models gave me inspiration. its nice to see that you keep yourself busy tho keep up

That makes me happy.

There is only so much Youtube you can handle before it drives you nuts, I had to find something else to make the time fly by.
