Grinding extruder/build plate

Bug

If I am not using custom gcode, I should not be able to accidentally cause the extruder to try and move beyond its perimeter and grind the steppers

If I lower the bed toward the bottom of the machine and then start any process that causes the machine to adjust the bed (filament change, start print, etc) the bed should not be able to grind the steppers at the bottom when doing this just because the bed is at the bottom of the printer.

Both have happened on my P1P

Can you give instructions to replicate this? I don’t think I’ve been able to exceed the boundaries on mine, but I haven’t tried recently.

Yeah, don’t do that, it’s a bug. Allegedly they reduced the drive current so it doesn’t hurt anything. It will also happen if you print anything that enough Z height for the bed to be at the bottom when a new print starts.

Not sure how it happened. There was a collision or something that caused the extruder to run a lap around the printer before resuming, but it tried to escape the printer and started grinding. I believe the Pre-sliced file from maker world was set to a different printer and I did not know because when you go to select a file from maker world it has you pick your printer. So I assumed this was the same process as the handy app when you go to print a file and it already has the printer set. The image is just an example, not the actual file I was printing when it happened

Hahaha yeah id say
