Looking to see if anyone has tried using Wood PLA in an AMS Lite (on A1). If so, have you seen any problems? Just starting to play around with Wood filament and definitely interested in having it work successfully in the AMS Lite. Have a few rolls of Amolen and have some of the Bambu Wood coming soon. Bambu says it’s compatible with the Lite. If anyone has anything to share, please do. Thanks.
I noticed no one replied to this, so hopefully you had some success.
Bambu wood PLA has been excellent in my experience. I’ve had no issues w/using it in the AMS Lite or regular AMS. According to their site, it’s compatible with both. I’ve generally followed their guidance by looking at each filament type and it hasn’t done me wrong. However, for non-Bambu materials I stay away from using those that Bambu themselves provide either AMS-specific versions of (TPU for example) or specifically indicate can be abrasive to the AMS/Lite (glow, wood, CF). I definitely would be cautious about using other brands of wood filament in the AMS, particularly because wood fiber content varies greatly between brands.
I will add that calibrating it made all the difference for me. I have the PA set to 0.018 on my A1 and 0.023 on my X1C, both of which were derived using auto calibration. For flow rate both profiles are using 0.931. This was the auto calibration result on the X1C and what I arrived at doing it manually on the A1.
For both, your values may be different for your environment, but either way worth doing. The quality and wood aesthetic after calibration was night and day. It’s really a gorgeous material to work with.
Thanks for the info. I have not had any issues printing Bambu or other manufacture Wood filament in my AMS Lite. I believe everything I’ve tried is <= 20% wood (Bambu has 15% wood). I’ve dialed in my settings and I’ve been able to print all Wood filament I’ve tried really well. It definitely prints better when printed slow. Also interesting to adjust print temp to give light/dark areas in prints to give it a bit more real wood look. Overall, very happy with the aesthetic look Wood filament gives and the ability to stain and oil.
So I’m extremely new. I basically haven’t started doing any “dialing in” of pretty much any sort so far. In fact, up until now I’ve been printing everything at 220c; PTA, Silk PTA, Glow Filament, & Wood.
I also didn’t know you can stain it too?!
