Hi, we have a print with 6 colors. All colors are pla basic. My h2c have a high flow hotend in left and the vortek have 2 high flow and 4 standard hotend.
When I slice with default setting and send the print to printer, bambu studio automatically chose what color was associate to a hotend number. But if one color bambu studio chose a standard hotend, i can change for another standard hotend, but I can’t chose a high flow. Same if the color was set to a high flow i can’t change for a standard hotend.
If I would like to set a specific color to a high flow hotend, i need to use custom when Slicing. With save or convenient mode, i can’t change between high flow and standard after bambu studio make the decision.
Is it normal, a bug? Is it me that i have not found how i can switch wihtout custom mode?
From a practical point of view, mixing standard and high‑flow nozzles in the same multi‑color setup tends to create more constraints than benefits, especially if you rely on the automatic “convenient” mapping in Bambu Studio. Ideally, the hardware configuration and budget should allow for having the nozzles you actually intend to use (including spares) rather than depending on mixed capabilities in one job.
As far as I understand it, Bambu Studio treats standard and high‑flow nozzles differently at slicing time, so once a color has been assigned to either a standard or a high‑flow tool, you can only swap it within that same nozzle type in the normal modes. I do not expect this to change in a meaningful way unless the printer itself gains the ability to re‑slice or reinterpret the tool assignments on the fly.
In your situation, I would handle this already at slicing time: explicitly map each color to the nozzle type you want (so the “correct” colors go to the high‑flow tools), or consider standardizing on all high‑flow nozzles if that fits your use case and budget. This way you avoid fighting the automatic mapping logic and keep the workflow predictable.
The thing that is annoying me is that I’ve added a single 0.4 high flow to use for single colour prints but the slicer chooses a standard flow even though I’ve selected high flow on the preceding print on the same settings.
It changes the nozzle selection back to “hybrid” and I have to reset it to high flow to get it to slice correctly.
It’s easy to miss when I’m a hurry and have to cancel the print and redo it.
This is a bug. If you have a mix of standard and high flow, on a multi colour print it should include that in the optimisation of nozzle allocation
They really need an option on the printer and ultimate pack purchase to switch the nozzles to high flow.
I would have definitely gone for 6 high flow 0.4’s and maybe 1 standard flow for challenging filament types although I have a pile of 0.4 standard for the left so I keep 1 exclusively for TPU and plan to do the same with CF and GF filaments
What they “need" is to have stock! I’m not sure about you, but my goal is to not “mix and match". I’m sure some people bought the high flow, because the standards weren’t in stock. But you can’t even buy a “full set" of 0.4 nozzles ATM…
While I fully appreciate them giving a “variety" of nozzles in the package, you cannot utilize them sensibly according to what they advertise as an " out of the box experience”.
You cannot run 7 colors on a single print, in box-stock because:
You cannot mix nozzles on a single print
You don’t have a “full set of 6 of the same sized nozzles".
You can’t " buy additional”nozzles, because they’re out of stock on the " most abundant size” given in the box.
I’m sure they’ll rectify this in time, but with in the immediate, it’s a little “cheesy and buttery advertising" IMHO.. LMAO!!!
This issue stems from Bambu Lab’s planning. By now, they should fully understand the market demand for HF nozzles.
When I purchased my H2D, the initial supply of HF nozzles was so limited that it took an unreasonably long time to obtain even two 0.4 mm ones. They’ve repeated the same mistake with every new product release. However, those with the right connections seem to be able to access the components through alternative channels—sometimes even bypassing regular customers in the queue.
For example, when I ordered my AMS HT at launch, half of my units were delayed, while newly placed orders were being fulfilled ahead of mine.
Yes their stock control is very poor, especially when they have a sale and lots of the filament colours on sale are already out of stock, or a launch that’s been heavily promoted.
Perfect application for AI to predict demand and stock up before they run out.
It is mystifying that AliExpress can get my selection out of millions of products (from countless individual sellers) to the UK in 5-7 days, yet filament can be out of stock for several weeks
For anyone that hasn’t seen it, the Bambu advanced class for the H2C has a fantastic illustration of the flow rates vs. filament types for the four H2C nozzle types. Some are pretty surprising. For example for PETG-HF filament, on the left HF nozzle, flow rate is 13 mm3/s where on the right HF nozzle its 35 mm3/s. Generally, the right HF version nozzle has the best flow rates of all the nozzles.
