I finally got around yesterday to setting up the laser module after having had the printer brand new for a week and I managed to create a new dog tag and everything went smoothly. Today I switched the printer on and I am now getting this error:
Completed all the steps and the laser has completely failed! Has anyone else had this issue? So based on that Wiki page I can confirm:
Laser module damage – The laser fails to emit properly or is significantly misaligned. [The laser does emit and does burn the test strip fine!!]
Thermal label contamination or damage – The heat-sensitive calibration sticker is dirty or torn. [Nope! It’s perfect and not even a finger print on it!!]
Dirty laser homing platform – The laser calibration platform has debris or residue. [Nope! checked!! The platform is squeaky clean!]
Improperly installed or reversed homing platform – The platform is not seated correctly or is mounted upside-down. [Checked and this works as I laser engraved a Dog Tag yesterday]
Chamber temperature out of range – The calibration sticker requires an ambient temperature of 16–32°C (60–90°F). [Temperature in the room is
Basically every time now I turn on the laser it complains I haven’t completed the laser calibration. I follow this through and it burns that test strip fine and no errors reporting. It then states calibration has been successful and the laser is good to go! The Engraving Laser Focal XY Calibration Failed error message then re-appears! I switch the printer off and back on and the printer wants to do a full calibration again.
I can’t make it out what’s happened as yesterday it worked fine as I managed to engrave a lovely new dog tag.
Temperature of the chamber is also cool as its been off for 24 hours and the ambient room temperature is around 22’C.
I tried also downgrading the firmware as there was an update I applied but even after downgrading the same issue persists.
I have even checked the laser itself, un-mounted it and there are no marks, smudges or any debris on any aspect of it. It’s only 2 days old!
As it stands I can’t send anything to laser engrave or cut.
I have raised a support ticket but has anyone else encountered this? It’s very very odd!
on the laser underneath? If so yes it was wiped and no marks, fingers or residue. also checked and wiped the extruder camera and Birds Eye and they are spotless.
ok thanks. Ive got the AC on and the room is chilled. I wiped the cameras and it’s definitely not them being dirty or dust etc. The internal chamber is cool so it can’t be that thermal issue. Just did a full calibration again and burning that test card and that worked. The printer reports the laser is ready to go! an then that same error pops up! Very bizarre. Will see what support has to say. I will also leave the chamber door open overnight and the AC left on in the room and see if tomorrow solves the issue.
ok the printer was off all night and just cleaned all the cameras using specialist cleaning wipes. they are spotless. turned the printer on again this morning and its cool in the room. printer does the full calibration and confirms all is good and then the error reappears. Im starting to think there’s a hardware issue with the laser module as one of the issues mentioned in the wiki does possibly point to a serious misalignment of the laser. Not sure why though as it was working fine with the test dog tag and the laser module wasn’t touched or removed after this when I came back to using it the next day.
Finally had a reply from Bambu Tech Support after 4 days. Looks like it’s the laser module as everything else works out fine so they are sending a replacement unit. If anyone else gets the laser version of this printer make sure its on your list to check out and ensure it works a good dozen times - don’t leave it sitting in the box for too long as I was planning on doing.
Update! Finally it’s working after a new replacement was sent to me. It took ages to resolve partly me being away for a week but Bambu wanted it shipped back before they sent a replacement.
They did in fairness send a replacement before they received it back on their end but it was sent via Yodel and that took another 5 days!. So 18 days later the new laser is in and it’s working so its definitely was a dodgy laser unit.
I did notice this time during the mounting calibration the laser did emit a small beam onto the calibration area which the other one failed to do.
So if you get the same issue as me chances are the laser unit is defective.
