H2D Camera Features

Here’s a few idea for new camera features on the H2D

  • Ability to stream the video of the nozzle camera
  • Ability to display the nozzle camera feed on the printer’s display
  • Time lapse mode for the nozzle camera where you could pick an X,Y position to take the picture on each layer. Maybe with the option to take a frame after each color on the layer. It would be great for diagnosing tricky issues.
  • Automatically capture the few seconds leading up to AI detected warnings and failures.

I would also love to see the ability to stream from the bird-eye camera.
For those of us who have the standard printer I would be happy to purchase the birds eye as an optional addon. (I see people have purchased them as a spare part but cant get video from them without the cutting module etc)

@SupportAssistant Are these camera features above something we might be able to get? Meaning, is the hardware able to support streaming them? If so, when might that be available in the firmware, over MQTT, and in Studio? Also, would they also be able to saved to the USB with Timelapse and/or 1080p video as well?

For now, I do not have any information about this. The team will be informed about this thread, so they can consider it for future updates.

Why not integrate a FLIR camera to optimize heat distribution and layer adhesion in future models, leveraging AI for enhanced performance? Would there be utility in this (albeit expensive)?

FLIR is a bit excessive IMO.

It isn’t like we have a multi zone heat bed like the Prusa XL, and even then a whole bunch of thermistors are still cheaper than a single FLIR, without any of the line of sight blocking we would get from a print in progress.

I would really love to have access to the nozzle camera too.

It would be great to be able to store the entire recording of the nozzle camera at 1080p, 30fps, to archive and later inspect the material deposition throughout the prints. I mean, really saving the movie file as a regular video camera would do, so that the movie can be stored somewhere, edited, and so on.

They promised a nozzle cam update in a future firmware update with Stephan from CNC Kitchen, and it’s been complete radio silence since. Has anyone heard any updates about this?
