H2D Dual Nozzle – Reduce or Remove Prime Tower with Similar Filaments?

If I’m printing with two similar filament types, is it really necessary to use a full-size prime tower?

Since each nozzle has its own filament and retraction, it seems like maybe the tower could be made smaller or even disabled entirely without causing issues like oozing or cross-contamination. Has anyone tried this?

Curious if people here have had success running with a reduced or no prime tower when just using two filaments. Let me know what you think.

I always reduce the stock prime tower size when setting up a multicolor print. Just no need for it to be as big as it is from my experience.

But I always include it. There can occasionally be little bits of filament that don’t get knocked off in the wipes that can get dragged into the print. The purge tower gives them a chance to get dislodged from the nozzle.

Yes and the H2D oozes filament from both nozzles during filament swaps, so I would not print without a prime tower.

Thank you, I do see some blobs in the prime tower which made me think it was still needed but could be reduced. Do you reduce it by a certain percent?

Nah. No magic here. I just size it to 20x20mm and call it good. The volume purged also reduces but I just let it do its thing.

Other sizes may be more optimum. I just pulled that out of the posterior to get a smaller purge tower and stuck with it.

Sounds good, i will check my posterior as well and make sure 20x20mm is good for me in most cases as well :+1:
