I thought people would be interested about offline use and it’s disadvantages particularly for H2D. In my case it’s not about confidentiality, but because i only could buy Chinese version which has regional restriction.
I want to list a few disadvantages:
Offline update is not supported right now and it is confirmed by the support. So i’m probably stuck with my current version (01.01.00.00), i asked support to at least temporarily disable region lock when they will release firmware that will support offline update, but haven’t got any replied yet (i will add their reply later). This part is one of the strangest since nowhere they mentioned that this functionality is not there (though somehow they have offline update option on the printer menu).
Bambu Cloud and Handy app doesn’t work obviously, but for me it’s not a big deal since i’m usually at home all the time and i’m planning to install Home Assistant anyway that will bring almost all of the necessary the functionality of the app. (Most important is notification)
Other than that, it’s been perfect, i felt in love with this printer and it’s way ahead of my X1C and i don’t really feel limited.
I am also very interested by offline update as I am restricted to use any internet connectivity at work, and yet, I want to benefit from the updates, especially on this H2D which seems to have released too soon.
Hopefully, they release this as an option soon. I’m not sure if your workplace will allow you to eject the USB stick, perform a factory reset on the printer, then use a phone hotspot for an online printer update ?
I understand that some companies restrict certain hardware from being connected to their internal networks.
So most likely they are preparing to update it soon to support offline update. Now the issue for us region blocked is to update to this version, now that’s a lot of hussle.
Can offline users go online to update firmware? YES
I’ve been printing the last week on firmware 01.00.xx , because I went into LAN mode from the start , found it doesn’t update in Lan mode , so switch off Lan mode logged into my account let it update and went back into Lan mode , but it says to update download the firmware from bambu and put it on flash stick .
Can you use a wifi hotspot to temporarily put the printer online long enough for an update? I feel like people and companies guying bambu printers for top secret areas with strict opsec protocols have made an idiotic mistake. These machines are clearly marketed as cloud/online forward products.
If you want to be totally be off line just use Lan mode and upgrade the firmware by downloading it from their support page , put it on a flash stick ( and upgrade from the screen , but never tried this )
