H2D - my initial issues and fixes

Loving my H2D in general but have a few gripes - here’s how I have solved them or would like to solve them:
:

  1. Its minor but annoying - the door handle is so bloomin narrow - can’t really open it without getting fingerprints on the glass which is annoying - so I knocked together a quick clip on handle extension - its here if anyone else finds it useful.

  2. Bed adhesions is an issue at stock temperatures for me - I need to bump the plate up to 60C for it to be reliable. This does not seem to be H2D specific, at least for me - I have the same issue using the stock plate and temps on my P1S - I am looking forward to “crypo plates” etc being available for the H2D. Does anyone know if there is a way to permanently increase the stock temperature for the textured sheet?

  3. Feeding TPU is a pain, needing to access the back to move the right nozzle PTFE tube over to the TPU inlet is tricky for me - so I have added an extra PTFE tube - I just noticed others have also done this here

You can bump the plate temps in the filament profiles. You need to do it for each material.

But don’t you then need to remember to switch to that alterative profile each time you use that filament? I find myself forgetting and then having a failure :frowning:

Yes I have custom profiles for all filaments for example “PLA Basic custom”. I like to turn down the AUX fan to 50% and a few other tweaks.

Try the BIQU Cryogrip? I have one for my P1S and I can run it at around 35C for PLA. Get the Glacier though, unless you always run PLA or PETG (me) or you want the smoother texture (also me but I don’t want to buy two). The Glacier texture is somewhere between smooth PEI and textured PEI, I believe it’s similar to the satin sheets Prusa sells?

One warning: BTT and BIQU customer support is absolute trash in my experience. They really need to improve on that… But if you think the risk of getting a trash product is worth it for running the plate 25C lower, then go for it.

Clean your print sheet.

I use vision miners nano polymer adhesive on all new sheets and have never had any issues with adhesion. First print last night I canceled to make a change and I had to let the sheet cool off before I could even pry the PLA print off. Exceptional adhesion imo.

Yup - I have pre-ordered the BTT one already. Hopefully there will be some of the no-name like these become available - I’ve actually found ones like this to be the most reliable (and even better cheapest) for my A1 Mini and P1S.

Yup nano polymer is great. I only apply a tiny amount every 10-20 prints. Ever since I got nano polymer (for textured PEI) and frostbite plate (for pla/petg, but still heated) i have zero failed prints due to lack of adhesion.

Yeah - I have. Lots - dunno what it is but for whatever reason on all my machines the stock temperatures don’t quite do it - I know I am not the only one.
I’d rather avoid using adhesives etc - once I moved to the cryobed type sheet on my P1S and A1 mini adhesion issues were a thing of the past, no need to clean the sheets, use adhesives, everything sticks.

I mainly use nano for ABS/ASA/PA. I also use it with PLA when i dont want to use the frostbite plate, for example when i print clocks as the textured PEI has a nicer bottom surface and the texture covers up the extrusion lines much better. With frostbite I can still see the extrusion lines on the bottom surface when the light hits it from an angle.

Makes sense - I use Magigoo for ABS etc.
I would just love to be able to override the Bambu defaults… I have found the config files where the temperatures seem to come from, but editing them does not seem to have done anything just yet… I might try a fresh install.

Have you tried editing the plate presets in the slicer?

Nope - couldn’t find where to do that - what have I been missing?

Wouldn’t it be better for Bambu to fix it in firmware, either by correcting the temp error or increasing the temperatures in the profiles?

They seem to be pretty good about that, at least sometimes.

Its in the filament profile:

Have you washed the plate coming from factory? My recent X1 plate was ‘clean’ but wouldn’t stick until I did the wash with soap and water. It’s not always the case, as it seems to be batch specific (other plates were fine).

Yeah, first thing I did.
I’ve never had luck with the default temperature for the textured sheet across multiple Bambu printers. A 5C uplift always fixes it, just wish there was a way to make that my default.

OK - found the “fix” for updating the textured plate temperature in the system profile.
They are stored in C:\Users<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio\system\BBL\filament
To update PLAs find the entries for the textured plate in fdm_filament_pla.json and change to the desired temperature. I assume I will have to redo this every time the profiles are updated.

I don’t seem to be able to use the left nozzle with Bambu Handy. I have black loaded externally on the LEFT and white (and 3 other colors) loaded in the AMS on the RIGHT. But this is the only choice it gives me.

and when I click on the black PLA to assign it to the LEFT nozzle, it shows this
which is my four colors in my RIGHT AMS and no external spool on the RIGHT.

The model I’m printing only has two colors, black and white. I’m able to assign white from the right AMS but not black from the external spool on the left nozzle.

Yup! Can confirm.
