H2S Z-hop on or off?

Hey Guys my H2S Arrives today, its very Impressiv. :smiley:
So i want to ask an tiny Qestion.
So at my Voron Printers , my z-hop is dissabled, and the print quality looks really goos so far. So my Wuestion is should be the z-hop on or also off at the H2S , to safe time , and getting evtl. Layerstacking better.

I hope of some good answers of other users.

Always on IMO. The risk is not worth the reward.

There’s also a setting called “reduce infill retraction” that is enabled by default. It disables retraction and Z hop for travel moves through infill areas. This setting is notorious for knocking over tree supports and causing the nozzle to scrape the infill at high speeds. My vote is to disable this setting too.

It’s a balance between time and on the other hand the possible issues that you might run into.

I go with @Qjo and would prefer to use Z-hop.

And time savings are quickly disappearing when you need to print a job twice.

It depends on filament, it is not a default setting for all filaments.

Also depends on your testing.

On for PLA, TPU, off for PETG, it doesn’t like it.

PETG can warp also, so tree support without Z-hop is a calculated risk.

True, but easy to use another support. I have not tried zhop with my latest retraction settings, so it may be better.

I found zhop produced stringing, but the main cause of that was bad profile settings for petg,

I do find the tree support useless with PETG if you are using them higher than about 10 layers anyway, they break too easily

I had no issues at the moment , with z- hop on. I was only think about it, because iam running my non Bambu Machines without it. But thx to all , for so many answers

That is what iam thinking to , non z-hop could in some scenarios reduce stringing

You will find the BL profiles way off for PETG and non BL brands of filament, keep that in mind,. Stringing, poor adhesion, clumping are all common issues that most people say clean your bed, dry your filament which is completely wrong. Its a profile issue.

So check your profiles and set customs ones if you use BL studio, general note, Orca slicer works much better with a BL printer in LAN mode than the BL studio does,

I set the avoid crossing walls on, and got my nozzle and retraction settings spot on for PETG, stringing gone, even in sport or ludicrous mode

I’ll put zhop back on and see what happens, I’m curious now lol

Ohhhh the Bambu works on Lan Mode with Orca??? Thats Interessting , yeah i was seeing , the profiles needs some love like you said.

Yes, turn off cloud mode, turn on LAN.

Orca slicer asks if you want to import your BL studio settings and works better than BL studio a few of us have found, theres even an IOS app that is like Babmbu Handy called bambu companion, if there was an android version I would not use cloud mode at all.

You get all the options BL have hidden too, like the fact the base AMS model has moisture sensor built in.

First place to look when you have issues with stringing is the filament profile.
Enabling Z-hop to reduce stringing would be my last resort.

I had the H2s, with AMS 2 , i was thinking , that Orca was not possible

I had no Stringing at all at the moment, it was only an question what Bambu user Prefer , on the machines. :smiley: Not that i have any printing issue at the moment.

Orca works better than studio in every way we have tested so far, and works fine with AMS,

I’ve never heard that one before and my main filament I print is PETG. As for the supports issue you have, that’s also probably a profile issue. This was printed in PETG.

That depends on the filament, honestly. There’s no universal “Z-hop always on” or “Z-hop always off.”
For some filaments it helps, for others it just makes the nozzle do a tiny pointless jump like it’s trying to impress someone.
And with foaming filaments? Yeah… adding Z-hop there is like giving a squirrel espresso — unnecessary movement and extra trouble.

Its not often my tree supports break, but it has happened, I’d put it down to studio making the auto tree too thin at daft points, easy to fix by manually sorting out the supports.

My profile is now perfect for printing petg, not tried a truly long tree support, my last one that broken was about 18cm tall,

This was the last time it happened, the tiny support under the elbow broke at a daft place.

Need to reprint this actually, but it’s 15 hrs and my printer already has a backlog of jobs to do. :joy:
