Hard time with ABS on H2D

Hello folks. Having a hard time printing ABS on the H2D.
I’m not that experienced with ABS so coming here seeking help.

It’s the second time I try to print that and a very similar not to say identical flaw happened on last attempt

Filament: Bambu ABS
Printing profile: stock aside from calibrations
Filament dried for 12h before being used

For the 45 degree overhangs, the bad extrusion comes from the filament being too warm to hold its place. The best way to fix that would be to decrease layer height. This will minimize how much filament is unsupported from the layer below. You could alternatively slow the printing down a little or add a little fan to the profile (10-15% more). Just know, fan and ABS don’t go together very well.

For the large support failure on the hygrometer slot, you may need to redo the support. Its unclear whether there was a support problem or a clog (or something else), but you can increase the density of support by increasing the “Threshold Angle” from the default 30° up to something like 45-50°.

lower nozzle temps(bottom of filament range), lower minimum print speed (10?), more fan on overhangs, lower outer wall speeds(max 50?), bigger minimum layer time(>10s). These microscopic 45 angles are a major overhang torture test. Downside is that doing all this with ABS will lead to extremely fragile parts with very little layer adhesion. I don’t know if you can get both excellent overhangs and excellent layer adhesion on ABS parts with these small features.

Edit: also lower layer height, down to about 0.12mm on a 0.4 nozzle. I personally find this is the sweet spot. Any less starts causing problems again in my experience.

I had already started a new print with the same settings, I did reduce to silent mode to at least address speed. H2D apparently doesnt let us change fan speed mid-print (interesting finding…). If it fails again I’ll lower temp as suggested. Will share how it goes so we all learn :slight_smile:

I think the fan speeds get changed mid print by the slicer profile profile and every time it changes it will override your manual setpoint. I’m not sure if every fan feature is set to 100% for example, if it will send the 100% command over and over, or if it eliminates these gcode lines for efficiency, which would allow manual fan settings to stick around.
