Has anyone successfully printed peek with aftermarket hotends?

I am getting an h2d and I am seriously considering it as a candidate for upgrades down the road that would allow peek to run so I just wanted to know the experience people have had with their x1’s and how the process went for the 500c hotend, what gcode/firmware mods need to be made to allow for an aftermarket hotend to work past 300c. I love my x1 but I have been reluctant to tinker with it since its my only production printer but now with an h2d in the cards this month I will always have a second machine to tinker with and not care about any surprise orders. So glad I waited for the h2d, almost got a second x1.

I have seen videos of peek being printed on the x1 terribly because layer adhesion is being affected by low chamber temps but that was over a year ago so yeah just wondering. I seek the tinkers knowledge.

as for my applications of peek, every now and then I need a part that can be in a car engine bay or maintain better rigidity inside something colored black baking under the sun. those kinds of things. so I do have a use case but the printers are bloody expensive, like I may as well just buy a CNC mill at that point because a cnc would actually make back its value in a few months in my shop.

If you want a nozzle to go up to 500C then you will most likely want a heater with more wattage than the stock 48W one.
edit: but I would not recommend that since some people have damaged their toolhead boards with aftermarket 60W hotends or even 2x48W ones

good to know, I figured it would be more extensive than just a hotend. do you have any suggestions? I’d love a brand to keep an eye on for h2d upgrades.

I haven’t seen a toolhead board or an AP board that can supply an extra 12W yet. I’ll edit this post if I do though!

Not necessarily related to PEEK printing, but the Panda Revo does seem to have a 60W heater. I wouldn’t recommend it because it might void your warranty, but I do appreciate the Revo ecosystem getting integrated into the Bambu ecosystem (even though it’s not official). Speaking of, if you want an official hotend not from Bambu Lab the only one is the E3D ObXidian or DiamondBack hotends from E3D’s official shop.

maybe the h2d with its heated chamber support and 50c hotter nozzle temps than the x1c will support better upgrades and help spur this kind of fringe modding.
