Has anyone tried the new Color Mixing feature on Studio 2.5.3 yet?

Looks similair to the Full Spectrum on the Snorca fork slicer. In addition to creating precise gradients, these look like game changers… I hope it works well with the H2C vortek.

I thought this was April fools joke along with the Graffiti ‘mixer’. How in the work do you mix solid filaments?

No, it’s real and is being heavily tested by Snapmaker U1 users:

I just installed BL Studio and am doing a 3 color gradient test cube now:

Alternate layers in a pattern, or alternate parts visible outside – aka optical mixing, and a variation on halftoning/dithering.

Of course I just received an order of 12KG of Gradient filament just this morning… :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Small test using 3 color gradient. Although this looks more like a new single color and not gradient?
I checked the Gradient Effect box. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or if I’m just not understanding what it is supposed to do.

Yes, I have, and it works mostly well with the dual nozzle printers. One thing that I have noticed though is that the layer adhesion suffers greatly, with a thinner part of the print failing. After the print finished, the rest of the part is also very weak. I was able to pry apart at the layer lines easily.

This sounds pretty bad, but my model was pretty thin, and there shouldn’t be big issues on larger models. It is definitely weaker than a regular print though. The color looked great, and a lot smoother than in the slicer.

I’m pretty sure it’s more focused along the layers? Check the side of the print

Multicolour print with filament mixing into supports (old)

Also needs to be enabled for gradient (better look)

I was waiting for this for some time, such a game changer!!! YES testing now

I was chatting with a few of the designers over the weekend about the solution I was creating for the Parametric Model Maker that would have provided most of these features in my v1 and would be able to match to any model (even if you didn’t make it) in the slicer.

So, I am now finishing off a new CyberBrick model as I have time freed up.

These were a couple of my first tests.

Left = a simple blend of magenta and cyan.
Right = yellow and cyan.

I’ve been messing about with it on the U1. Translucent PLA seems to work the best so far..

Here is what I tried last night, I took a benchy and made a red to yellow gradient. Print took almost 6 hours on my H2C with yellow ABS in the left and red ABS in the right. What I expected was for it to go from pure red at the bottom to pure yellow at the top, but what happened was clearly less pure than that. I guess what isn’t mentioned in the settings is over what range the gradient is calculated.

Currently printing a mix of PLA Matt Red and PLA Silk silver in gradient. We shall see but time to print benchy tripple at a min.

sprior,

My small cube seemed to be an almost solid color with no gradient. Even though I checked the Gradient Effect box. Mind sharing a screenshot of your mix settings?

I was playing around since then so I don’t think I have the exact settings I printed with, but here’s a screenshot that should match. I created two gradients (one from yellow to red and the other from red to yellow) and applied them to two benchys.

The other things that’s interesting is the preview, from this angle you can’t tell which one starts at yellow and which starts at red, and don’t really expect the top to be red on both.

However if you change the angle to be horizontal you now can at least tell which was which.

This will be a massive game changer for H2C, it works really well. Here is cyan and yellow producing green. As long as you have CMY, you can literally, in a pinch, create any color you want. Sure, it will be much faster to print a full green model, but if you have a small tiny element like an eye or something that needs to be green, there is no longer a need to have green—just mix those two. The same applies to all other colors. I can finally go super creative and dive deep into my stained glass models, which were super simple due to color limitations. Good times!

Would be great if Bambu would release a CMYK semi-translucent set that will be able to emulate any color.

Current translucent PLA line is quite good, I’m gonna experiment with it in the next few days.

It is still printing in my H2C, I need to try different color combo next time.
