Has Makerworld gone cuckoo?

So… if I’m not supposed to upload many few gram models, what am i supposed to upload? Only 2-3 5kg models?
(Number 3)

I find this request a little controversial and affronting for a platform who is trying to encourage people to share their models… how about we just DONT SHARE any of our creations?

What do y’all think? I know almost every maker on makerworld could be implicated for this rule!

Maybe stop and breath for a bit…

You’re pretty new here so you will have missed when a lot of these rules were added and the context around them.

The “Don’t upload a bunch of super tiny models” rule is in place to stop people trying to gaming the system. The vast majority of the models uploaded are well over a couple grams of filament.

Makerworld wants completed projects in one upload. Not 60 uploads of parts for one project. Just think how many uploads @Josh-3D would have if he split each part in a project into an upload. Not only would it be trying to game the system it would be really tough for the end user to figure out which parts to download for a project.

I expect because Bambu wants models that will have people using lots of filament, thereby driving more filament sales. They don’t just provide MakerWorld out of the kindness of their hearts…it has to generate revenue for the company.

I believe that what they mean is you shouldn’t upload things such as 20+ simple hairpins. Here, I don’t mean hairpins such as this elegant one from Alex3d - that would be totally fine:
Auspicious Hairpin by alex3D - MakerWorld

But rather, low effort ones such as this one:
Hairpin by user_3909314200 - MakerWorld

If you check that user’s profile, you’ll see that there’s a host of these very simple hairpins with very little variation between them.

So in short: I don’t think it’s controversial at all. To me, it’s fine that they want to curb low-effort models.

Where did you read that you need to upload models weighing kilos of filament? It clearly states they don’t want you to upload an excessive number of miniature models that only weigh a few grams.

For example, don’t upload 100 fidget spinners that are 2 grams each. It doesn’t mean you have to upload a model that weighs 1 kg.

I would assume they mean like the people who upload 5 different designs of fully flat earrings to the Christmas contest

Just to put things in perspective, a sugar cube is 4 grams. It also doesn’t say you can’t upload things that small, it says excessive miniature few-gram models.

I see, Okay, I think i understand now.
Thank you everyone for your input!

Hmm. So now I uploaded a model.
Initially the model only weighted 5 grams, but just to be sure, I tweaked it to weight over 10 grams. Not because the model needs it, but because I don’t like to be taken from behind without warning.

This is the problem it causes.

Designers make entirely unnecessary changes to try and get around the poorly written and ill-conceived rules that change at a moment’s notice.

A model should be the exact thing it needs to be, weight included.

Do we make 1kg filament clips?

Some models are exactly what they are, they do not need to be more and should not be forced to.

If you can solve the problem with a tool, you shouldn’t be forced to make that tool differently just because others in the past gamed the system and the gatekeepers (MW) assume everything like that must also be an issue.

It is reactionary and short-sighted.

What is next, they do not allow squares, everything needs to be spheres - just dumb.

Judge on the merit not on the abstract.

the thing that scares me the most is #5 … like that means to me that they can remove your redeemed gift cards and for all of us as I can understand… ?? To me so far bambu as been very good, but the day that I will see such modifications I will delete all my models and go somewhere else. So we can all be paranoid about it or just live with it because in the end, there is nothing we can actually do other than create posts and say that we dont agree about it. will it do any changes ? i doubt it

Because it needs repeating.
