Having a bad day. Don’t be me!

Having a bad day. All I wanted was the faulty SD card slot fixing, but having to jump through the disassembly and reassembly of my printer to support troubleshooting I’ve made it 100% worse. First support sent me a new FPC cable; take a look at the photo, WTF, why is is larger and no the ferrite ring does not fit. Having disassembled the AP board three times on the request of support I’ve now broken the AP board, dropped the screen and smashed the (I now know very fragile) ferrite ring. Should have stayed in bed. If support ask you to take the machine apart be careful, it’s the most fragile (glued together with silicone) printer I’ve ever worked on! :man_shrugging::man_facepalming:

I know how you feel. While not as bad as your issue, I had a clog in the extruder and had to take it out of the printer. Everything was going fine until I tried to remove the filament sensor plug. Removed as much of the glue I could, but when I tried removing the plug, it took the socket out with it. Took about two weeks to get the replacement board. :frowning:

I also had the display cable replaced, and indeed it is wider so you can’t reuse the ferrite ring. It doesn’t help that the Wiki article on replacing it fails to mention (or at least did when I last looked) how to release the connector lock on the AP board. (The AP board replacement article does say this.)

Well, BL support are sending me a new screen and AP board. I can’t ask for more than that. I hate seeing them get bad press, they may be understaffed but I’ve no complaints with the outcome.

That’s good to know. I dropped the ring and it smashed

As a heads up, JST sockets come off the pins more often than one would like. The pins are a friction fit in the socket, there is no glue nor mechanical fastening. As long as the pins aren’t bent and you know which way 'round it went, you can just push it back on.

In my case, the complete socket, pins and all, came off the board. These are surface mount and there is not a lot of mechanical strength holding them onto the board.

I didn’t think about surface mount. They are very fragile. I’ll keep that in mind when I do a nozzle change.

I have the same problem. Replacing my FPC and the screen due to SD card problems.
What did you do about the ferrit ring?
I am so annoyed.
I can’t believe they send the larger cable but fail to send a new ring.

Ignored the ring, is what I did.

Agreed. It’s not needed.
