Having a problem extruding on a P1S without AMS

Hi. I’ve had my P1S for a few days, and on the 5th print, the Bambu Basic filament was no longer being extruded (using the Spool and not AMS). I followed the troubleshooting guide to use the pin method to clear the heat-end. I removed a 1.5-inch piece of filament and then ran more filament through the heat end (while the heat end was unscrewed), and it extruded. So the heat end seems to be working.

I then re-attached the heat-end. I tried a Load, and no filament was extruded. I tried a print and no filament was extruded. I tried an unload and the Yellow Gear made a slight grinding noise and didn’t move (not sure if it is supposed to). I then followed the guide on removing the PTFE Tube. I see the green filament but it just goes down into the next part of the machine and I can’t pull it out.

So, I am trying to figure out what the next thing I can try is.

Does anyone have an idea? I feel like I am missing something basic but not sure where to go.

I have attached a picture of where it stands now. Thanks for any help.

Den Extruder mal zerlegen und reinigen da steckt bestimmt Filament drin.

It seems the filament is stuck because it is melted together with what is in the melt chamber - you won’t be able to pull it out.
As it was going through I have to ask what the head end is …
I assume you mean it was going through the extruder and that you took the hotend off.

You probably have a blocked hotend or nozzle.
Connect it and heat it up to around 140 degrees Celsius assuming you used PLA.
Unscrew the nozzle.
Put the rest back together if not already done to check if the filament extrudes without the nozzle.
If so either replace the blocked nozzle or try to clean it out.
I just place them onto a hotplate covered with some aluminum foil until whatever is inside starts to get runny.
Then I use some dental wire in the hope to free the hole so I can clean the gunk out while still hot.
If all I fails there is always a blowtorch to turn the plastic into ash - takes a while to get the remaining ash particles out using filament but an ultrasonic cleaner does wonders.

Thank you for the strategies. I will give those a try.

I really appreciate it!

Thanks everyone for the help. I took the extruder apart a couple of times. It didn’t work after the first time but somehow it worked after disassembling it the second time.

Thanks again for the help.

Nebur. Thank you for your time. I was hoping not to bother you guys once it seemed to be working. However, what you posted above is really educational for the next time. I have learned a lot with this issue and I really appreciate your help. I am sure to will be useful in the future.

For posterity, here is the post I deleted that Nebur responded to:

Thanks all for your help. Nebur was correct that the green piece did not belong on the side of the extruder. . Since then, I have taken the extruder apart, removed foreign material, and it still won’t seem to extrude. I am hoping I am missing something else stupid. Here is what I have done:

  • Cleaned the extruder so that the yellow gear moves by hand
  • Put it all back together
  • Loaded filament and tried to extrude using the P1S screen and nothing came out of the hotend
  • Unscrewed the screws to the hot end, pulled it, heated it to 220C, and used the pin method up the hotend. It was pretty clean.
  • I then ran filament (PLA) from the top of the hotend through and it extruded.
  • I then cooled things down and put the hotend back on. I pulled the tube.
  • I heated things back to 220C and then fed the filament directly into the top of the extruder. I pressed the Down extrude button and pushed lightly on the filament.
  • The extruder “moaned” a bit but nothing came out of the hotend. The yellow gear did not move.

So, I have now taken the extruder apart again just in case I had something stuck, but I don’t see anything. I have attached a picture of the disassembled extruder in case I have missed something there.

Does anyone have any idea what I could look at next?
