Having a Remix issue

I imagine this question gets asked a lot, but I having trouble finding an answer. I found a print I both like, but it’s not what I want. I spent all afternoon remaking it into what I want it to be for my needs. I thought I’d add it back as a Remix, but the original says No Derivatives, so I can’t.

I think it would be helpful to others, but in the scenario, how would I go about making it available to others? Obviously posting it as original is not good, as I started with the base work of someone else. Is there any other way or am I just relegated to “Sorry, but you can’t share what you’ve done here.”?

No means No.

Now if this is a whole bunch of parts and you tweaked a single part to make the single part work better as a whole, post the new part only not the whole project. Making your version of a single part not the whole project is a diffrent thing. You see that done everywhere. Then link to the original project for the rest of the files. But no you cannot re post a whole project. Thats just wrong

Example you want to use a diffrent type of bearing on a gear and it was not designed for it from the original project make a new gear to use the new bearing and post the gear and instrructions and link to the original project so the person who finds the gear can get the rest.

Let say you have a toy doll and it has tons of parts like a hat and you design a better hat. Upload the hat and link to the other project for the rest of the doll.

That’s what I thought, and hence why I asked here. This was a significant change from the original. Guess I’ll just rebuild the part from scratch without using the original as a “starting point”, not a difficult task.

Thanks for the response.

As long as there is no IP or trademarks there is no reason that you cannot do that … i would also supply the original cad file to prove you are the creator and are the person who made it if the day comes.

If there is an IP, Trademark or other attached or belonging to the other person then you have no right to publish so make sure your good before posting or keep it for your self.

It’s a Pi Camera housing. There are tons of them out there. The one I pulled and chopped up has the Standard Digital File License instead of the Creative Commons License. When I rebuild the design I want, I’ll put it up there with a “Do with it as you please” type license.

Well, I’m not an expert in this field, but only the intellectual property is protected while creating.

So if you draw it from scratch, without even a single line/dot from him (copied from the original drawing, so you didn’t draw the line yourself) and it’s not a Monalisa by someone like Leonardo Davinici made in 2024… so not a design case of inspirations by creative art just the other thing: A construction case… Is there also no trademark infringement or patent infringement Integraited… However finaly you will need to read your self thure the 3 Rights. Your life, your rights, your responsibilities.

Start with this 3 rights:

Copyright
Patent law
Registered trademark

The latter two must be protected. The first does not include the latter two. To protecting the last two is anything but for sure not free or cheap.

However, I m not an expert on this. I just give you a point to start reading. Copyright for sure: Lyrics, Programmcodes, the drawing itself… and so on

Yeah, I’m well versed in in the legal side of designing parts, I just don’t want to violate the rules on Makerworld, nor upset the community - you know, being a good Netizen and all.

Thats god.

May make a simple video of it and upload it to YouTube. YouTube is owned by Google… may during the first years you do not get views but even Bambulab will by not there were they are standing withoute Google.

YouTube Videos do not need to by professional (is even reversed, professionalism only takes away the credibility of the video). You do not need to show yourself or to talk… just show something clever, simple and be yourself and ones in a lifetime… and the link below the video you can reroute to any place you want. Will by 10 time more worth than your desine…

Have you tried contacting the original author? otherwise you will have to rebuild it from scratch.
