Help needed to modify a print

HI everyone. New here and only been printing for around 6 or so months but loving what i can do already.

I’m looking for some help please on modifying an existing model.

This is the original: Pinball Coffee or Can Holder - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld

And this is mine: jazcup - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld

The main issue I need to fix is that when I adjusted the size of the original print, it also stretched the mounting holes as well as moved them slightly more apart so now don’t mount as intended nor do they allow the bolt to fit through the holes.

Can some help me please on how to keep the mounting hole section exactly as it is while ensuring my model is achieved. Even if someone on here is smart enough to fix and send to me.

Cheers.

Clever use of the cut to parts tool can usually work. Instead of stretching the entire model vertically make 3 sections with cut-to-parts and stretch only the middle section:

I did try that, admittedly only the very top part rather than cutting into 3 sections.

I did struggle on how to re-assemble though. Is this easy enough to do?

EDIT: by cutting below the top hole, I am actually increasing the distance between the holes which is NOT what I need to do. Hence why I think this method didn’t work for me and why I tried to just slice a little off the top and then increase.

Yeah pretty easy. Just move the top portion up vertically, stretch and move the middle segment, leave bottom segment alone.

I edited the above as stretching the middle will widen the distance between the holes which means I can no longer mount the object.

Also, I am struggling to assemble them. Is there a good guide on how to do this?

moonrakerone has already pointed in the right direction, but I would cut it differently:

On the left is the actual mount, and on the right is your cup holder. Then you can adjust the cup holder to be as big or as small as you want.

Sure, it’s not perfect. If you want to do it right, you’d have to design it in CAD - ideally as a two-piece assembly from the start: a mount and a cup holder that snaps into place.

That would be the kind of project that’s perfect for learning CAD. A cup holder like that really isn’t hard, and with the help of tutorials, you can make one in a few hours. Later on, once you know how to do it, you’ll be able to make something like that in 15 minutes.

Have you considered learning a little bit of CAD? It’s great for DIY projects like this because it allows you to bring ideas to life quickly.

Thanks. I also cut it the way you did. But when extending the cup, I found that a flat section of the handle would remain above the handle. As opposed to being round like the rest of the cup.

Maybe I need to approach this differently. Thanks for the replies.

If you want to do that, you’ll have to use CAD. Maybe you could do it with Blender, too. But you’ll definitely have to learn a new piece of software.

So really dumb question. I did the cut down the handle.

Went into slicer and then joined the parts…they still looked to be two separate parts so i merged them? Is that correct?

Presume when slicing the cup it will print as a whole piece that is joined and seamless?

That’s right. :+1:
