Help needed with use of support filament & surface finish

Help with support needed.

Hi I am having trouble getting the support material to layer in the correct place and give the best surface finish. I would like to attach the .3mf file for a print which needs a 0.2 nozzle to get the logo to print correctly but can’t see how to!!!. However now that the logo comes out ok the bottom face of the logo looks terrible and stringy. If I orientate the print on its side then one of the internal curved parts does not print at all!!!

With regards to the support filament I am using BL W. I am trying to put it in between the top of the support and the print. But, it keeps putting a layer near the base of the print and adding a lot of time and wasting a lot of the support filament!!!

Can any one help with these issues please? It was printing really well with a 0.4 nozzle ( except the logo ) and all came out looking like it had been injected rather than printed!!! Cheers

I’ve had similar issues as you and still haven’t found a solution. I’ve tried a laundry list of things for curved surfaces: using the BL-W as the support interface layers, as well as the same material as support interface. I’ve increased the number of support interface layers, gone from 0 to 6mm of Top Z Distance. I either get the supports completely fused tot he part, or i get a really rough and terrible looking and feeling surface.


These are the support interface settings I’m using now. Maybe it helps you get a little better quality than you have now, but it’s far from the quality I’m getting on my Prusa.

My experiences have been similar with supported surfaces being very stringy/rough - and not just curves but flat areas too depending on the support type. Traditional supports have given better results overall, but tree supports have been so bad I am convinced something is broken in the slicer. Especially with tree supports, I get a surface that looks like a bad bridging job than something that was actually supported.

I’m having the same issues. Did you get yours resolved?

Never got the issue resolved with Bambu Lab white support filament but got much better results using any PLA as a support for PETG and PETG as the support for PLA!!

I just got the Support for PLA filament, and it’s horrible. Yeah, it breaks off kind of easily, but it leaves such a rough and jagged finish. It also keeps causing my prints to fail. I’m even using Bambu PLA with it.

I feel so ripped off!!!

The support Filament works amazing at JUST STANDARD settings, if you go anywhere under that it sticks to the surface really bad. Try and set the filament layer height and settings as standard while the rest is at fine or better. You may need to disable the Prime Tower in order to make it work.

There’s too much of parroting “did you dry the filament?” nowadays, but I believe for PLA Support it actually is fairly important. Bambu says “Cautions for Use: Dry out before use”. They don’t say that for normal PLA.
