Help New Printer Failed Prints Question about Printer Features

Ok so just got my printer today. Printed test print with Bambu PLA, printed perfect. So I started to try to print my own stuff with Overture PETG - Recently Dried. Print failed, didn’t adhere despite glue. Tried the Bambu PLA-CF and that failed.

I don’t care about the failed prints I can figure that out, but I’m concerned because the printer didn’t recognize the failed print. I had to stop it both times.

I thought this printer had failed print detection, first layer detection blah blah blah.

What am I missing? I took my model into Bambu studio, left all setting stock except for filament, then sliced and printed. Am I doing something wrong? isn’t it supposed to see that the print is not printing correctly? Any help appreciated.

How did the prints fail? I’m assuming they came detached? The print does have spaghetti detection and first layer inspection but it is %100 reliable. First make sure it is enabled. Also be aware that spaghetti detection struggles when the filament is dark and it also alerts far after one would normally stop a failed print when viewing it. IE it has to be a pretty bad fail for it to stop.

Hi, glad to be here. Yes the first layer detached and sometimes dragged the carcass around. Yes both were black filaments.

How do I know if it’s enabled?

Right now I’m using a new box of Hatchbox ABS Red and so far it’s about 90% adhered the the build plate. So I guess that’s a failed print as well.

You might want to print a temperature tower to dial in the correct nozzle temperature. The best temperature for PETG seems to vary quite bit depending on brand and color. One spool of mine had major stringing and adhesion problems until I set the temp well above Bambu or manufacturers recommendations.

Ok thanks. I’ll try that. Yes, those settings were already on.

Glue doesn’t help the print adhere to the plate; it does the opposite. The glue acts as a membrane between the print and plate, which then makes the print easier to remove. So, glue in this case sort of makes things less sticky.

For PETG I use a textured plate (gold) from Bambu and no glue, which works 95% of the time, I do have failures (prints not sticking) occasionally. I then move to the plate that came with the printer, engineering plate I believe, and use that without glue, that usually works.

If you do not have the textured plate, the plate that came with my printer says PLA on one side and PETG etc. on the other. Both side say glue can help right on the plate.

Try this

  • wash the entire plate with Dawn or some equivalent dish soap
  • dry the plate but avoid touching the print area as best as you can
  • Print PETG directly on the side that says its for PETG

If you still have a problem, it could be the object you are printing, maybe it needs a brim? or some other settings change?

Cool. I’ve been printing for a while, but being a new printer I thought I’d try their recommendations. I’m printing with some old generic PLA right now, no glue and it’s going perfect. I have a textured plate coming today sometime. Thanks for the help.

Ok. I hate to say it, but my MK3 printed great right out of the box with any filament and I’ve never tweaked any profiles ever.

So I got a roll of Sunlu PETG as I heard Sunlu is the manuf making the filament for Bambu. Tried it with Bambu PETG basic profile no glue, failed print (didn’t stick to the bed). Tried the generic PETG profile no glue, printed pretty perfect a bit of wisps of hairs on it. I mean hardly any so a great print. Cleaned the bed with alcohol as I always do, no glue, failed print. I mean come on what’s going on. Here’s the results.


I’m really not happy. I bought this printer for the whole “set it and forget it”. Now I’m getting failed prints with Bambu PLA? WTF. I brought my Prusa MK3S+ back in the house and used the Sunlu I tried on the bambu and it’s printing perfect.

When I got this printer I thought all the features and build quality were amazing, but none of that matters if it can’t print.

Ok some improvement. I’m using Overture PETG and did the flow dynamic and flow rate calibration built into Bambu Studio and that helped in one way. So I’m printing a large flat object and it seems to lay down 3 SOLID layers in one piece, maybe 60% of the size of the plate. Which is great, then it gets to infill and it’s, I guess, not adhering. It’s clumping up on the nozzle sometimes and not printing in other areas. So now I have no idea what’s going on.

I did do a temp tower and all seemed acceptable aside from the bridge stringing. With that none were perfect, but 260 looked best. I’m retrying now.

Any suggestions??

Be careful about the sensitivity.
When it is high, the spaghetti detection could give false alarm, lead to printing failed. e.g. this morning, I had Gyroid infill for 230x230 detected as spaghetti.

So I finally got decent prints and consistently today. I haven’t done anything since last time as i was out of town. I turned the speeds down, based on a webpage I saw, kept the door open, used gyroid infill. Also did a purge and cold pull before just to be safe then re-ran the filament and flow calibration.

Prints are good, but not great.
