Help on fan settings

New to Bambu, not new to 3d printing. I noticed my P1P is having some not great results with overhangs that should be pretty easy, so I went looking and found the fan settings for my filament of choice - Bambu basic PLA.

I changed my cooling overhang threshold from 50% to 25% to see if this helps. Is this the correct way to address this issue?

I then kicked off the print, and in “devices”, I see the fan controls, but they all say 0% - am I interpreting this wrong, that the fans aren’t running at all? It’s on layer 5, the fan settings under filament say no cooling for the 1st layer only - what’s going on?

Can you manually switch the part cooling fan on from the handy or studio? If you can but can’t see the fan spinning, then the connector may not be sealed correctly.

Well, that’ll teach me not to check the hardware first - the part fan was actually unplugged - paused the print, plugged the fan back in, and it spun right up - it’s now reading just fine in Bambu studio. I wonder how that got unplugged - I’ve never actually had that happen on a printer before, so it wasn’t on my radar.

We’ll see how the overhangs look now that they’re getting cooled.

It sounds like you may not have tuned your filament profile.

Have you tried performing a temp tower calibration? if you’re using Bambu Studio, it’s a pain but if you switch to Orca Slicer the temp tower is built into their calibration mention.

If you haven’t used Orca slicer, it is a fork of Bambu Slicer so it will look like Bambu but note the differences in this image:

What’s nice about this is that unlike other Temp Towers on other machines where you have to go into the GCode to manipulate the extrusion temp, Orca does that for you.

Just remember to slice the plate after the tower is rendered

They did a pretty good job with their tutorial.

But here’s what you’re looking for. Check each level and look for overhang stringiness. Then note the temp and go into your slicer and dial that in.

Then note the temp and go into your filament setting and dial that in. Maker sure you hit the save button(looks like a floppy disk) You’ll be prompted for a new name. General best practice is to use the format "PLA - Sunlu) or equivalent for your filament type and maker.
