Help on First Layer Multi-Color - Text Prints on 2nd Layer

Hey everyone, I’m running into an issue with multi-color printing on my Bambu printer and could really use some help. I’m using the Bambu Studio with latest firmware.
Coin 3D logo.3mf (60.4 KB)

I’m trying to print a single object (like a coin) with two colors on the first layer — for example, a red coin with black “3D” text embedded in the middle.

I prefer printing face-down on the PEI plate to get that nice smooth finish, but the slicer keeps printing the black text on the second layer instead of combining both colors on the same initial layer.

This used to work fine a few firmware versions ago, but now it seems like no matter what I do — merging the parts, adjusting part order in the object list, changing heights — the slicer still separates the colors across layers. When I merge the object in the slicer, the text even disappears completely into the base and shows only solid red.

I’ve attached a photo showing the result and the rough finish I’m getting. Does anyone know how to properly configure the model or settings to force multi-color prints to happen on the same first layer? Any tips, tricks, or tutorial links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Seems you created it the wrong way…
I see red artefacts in your pics - these should not be present in a clean model.

Could you clarify what you mean by the red artifacts and why they indicate something is wrong with the model? The red color was applied intentionally using the Bambu Studio paint tool.

Then you found the problem
You painted something, sure, but it did not result in an even result.
The red inside the logo shows that there is a mix of both colours in too fine details.

Painting might be good for certain things but IMHO nothing beats having TWO models - one for the coin, one for the logo.
That way you have the control over the entire process.
E.g.: 3mm coin with a 0.8mm logo embedded - you just select the filament you want for the different parts.

I have described the process a few times, this is one.

The key is having multiple objects.

The paint tool appears to be successful for ornaments, not this sort of model.

Make the disc a single solid colour after removing the paint you applied.

You can do this the same way you did with your text layer.

It also seems that you have not currently positioned the z -axis position, as it appears at least one layer too far up.

When you slice, use the right-side layer bar and drag it down to the first layer. If you see black, you are good, I suspect it will be white.

Thank you! I really appreciate the link to the discussion process and the additional tips. This is exactly the kind of response I was hoping for—one that not only highlights potential issues but also offers clear guidance on how to troubleshoot and fix them. I’ll check out the link and try the suggested steps. Thanks for your time and help.

Happy to help.
