I hope an expert can help me figure out a print profile that can print these objects. From time to time, I can get them to print with a low yield, but it is very touchy especially the strange shaped one. I’ve tried with/without support, thick/thin print heights, recently I turned on max cooling, and I just can’t crack the code. I would truly appreciate any guidance. I am printing on a P1S and can heat the chamber if needed.
Thanks. Did try the variable layer height before, but will give it all a go again. Filament is in the dryer now. For the variable line height, any suggestion on how to bias it? Should I target more for quality or speed? Should I stay with the standard Bambu PLA-basic cooling settings? I am using Bambu basic white filament.
Oh yes, one other thing. I recently recreate this from mesh into a solid so now I can modify it to try and make it easier to print. The current wall thickness is ~0.5mm. I changed to 0.4mm and it sliced poorly, but I can increase it to 0.8mm though admittedly, I tried printing this earlier and it was terrible. Any recommendations are welcome to consider.
You should be fine with default cooling settings. Making the walls thicker should also help. A 0.50mm wall is just over one wall thickness. If you could try 0.84mm walls, that would be 2 standard wall thicknesses.
I would bias the variable height settings towards quality.
First shot went pretty well. Still a little bit of like blistering and light stringiness around the top, but I did forget to change to arachne walls so I will try that next. Thanks!
From a maker’s standpoint, I would hazard that sagging has caused the layers to not actually touch between passes, causing delamination (or rather non-lamination). Thicker layers might help or better support in the middle. It’s hard to tell from the photos.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will give this a shot! BTW do you know of any good references how to design my own support? I am not sure the paint on supports work great for this design since sometimes they bleed through the thin part.
Interesting. I am not sure how to make my own solid supports so any tips would be great! I would love to use PETG for support, but I’m using a P1S and multi material is not very efficient.
There are lots of youtube videos about putting in your own support. a good source in tangled. The biggest problem with designing your own support is specific to your specific design. You need to understand your needs.
Another comment was to use PETG for PLA. or vice virsa. An issue to keep in mind is the change over makes the layer adhesion weaker for the main part. There is a little other material in the nozzle. It might not look like it but a little contamination make a break point. If strength is not a problem, then using an interface layer can improve quality. From what I have seen of your model, the interface layer would be a single change. (Two if you consider to and from the interface layer. )
