I printed a nice Amiga logo face down on my P1S and, knowing it’s a bit of pig to print, I decided to print it multiple times on the same run since most of the time is lost to filament changes.
As you can see from the picture, there are black areas I’ve circled where they shouldn’t be. Having seen how the printer printed this, it seemed to print the black as the very first part of the STL, so I suspect the excess black is filament left as it did a travel move into or away from the AMIGA black bits.
This is all Bambu Basic PLA.
Does anyone know of any good settings that might help with this? Bearing in mind that the extra filament appears to be being deposited as part of the first filament selection and then just smeared over with the white, so flushing volumes are not at play here.
Love the print, reminds me of my VC20 starting years…
I tried some colour prints in the past and had similar issues.
Upon observing the first layer I noticed several issues >
Sometimes areas of fine detail cause the filament to not properly bond to the plate - some will be dragged some might build up on the nozzle.
Especially right after a colour change there can be severe issues - I put them down to the filament purge and time the filament had in the melting chamber.
With the filament softer than usual the fine details struggle more.
First layer surface quality…
If you print just a single layer you can often see artefacts on the surface or around the wall.
In a multi colour print these can mean disaster as the next colour might drag those along or in some cases dislodge them.
Try something stupid>
Blue and black seem to be the only colours with slight issues as far as I can see.
Check if you can get PROPER first layer adhesion with different temps.
Some filaments/colours prefer a slightly lower or higher bed temp, some might benefit from a slightly lower nozzle temp to reduce the smearing.
I sometimes print some small single wall circles, literally an open cylinder with a wall thickness equal to the wall settings in the slicer.
If they come out fine and won’t just pop off the bed the stuff should work.
For really bad cases it can really help to change the print order.
E.g.: If your white prints really well and with clean walls for the coloured areas it would provide a boundary for the black and blue to follow.
This can look really nice if you select a single wall for the first layer and depending on the size and shape of the coloured areas to change how they are printed.
Like with the white confining all you could prin the colours with 0 walls and 100% or 95% infill
But for those fine lines in the A of Amiga I would probably go with Arachne, at lest for the black.
