Help with PET-CF, failing

I’ve got some Sirya Tech PET-CF (not PETG-CF) that I can’t get to print correctly. I’ve tried the Bambu and Generic profiles, as well as one published in Siraya’s website. None work. It looks like a partial clog when you watch it. I tried running flow calibrations but the first layers are so bad you can’t even read the numbers. My observation is it isn’t extruding many time it’s slowing down for a direction change or speeding up after one. Some kind of PA issue maybe? To prove it wasn’t a partial clog I unloaded the PETCF and reloaded the PETG, and tried the same part. The PETG behaved properly. And yes, the filament is dry. Or at least dry enough there was very little stringing in a temp tower that I managed to get it to print.

I don’t know what to try to fix. Grateful for any assistance.

Have you tried manually calibrating the PA/Flow dynamics yet?

It should be dry if it’s new. ST dries all their spools before packaging in a foil bag so they’re ready to go when the user gets them.

Yes that’s what I started with. It’s the flow print that I ohotoed and shows the failure. I did them in the order listed on the calibration page, both manually.

I used the 0.4 stock nozzle. FWIW Siraya says 0.4 is ok. Just not 0.2.

The “Pull back” from the outerwall usually indicates too large of Flow dynamics calibration (pressure advance).

Thank you. What would be a good value to try to swing it the other way manually? Not sure how that number affects it. Intuition would make me think larger but maybe not. .

0 is where I start. Normally you end up around .02 with calibration.


Often people with results like yours miss a decimal place and use a value like .2. As you can see from the above picture, a larger number increases the size gap.

I checked the profile, it had 0.8 for “flow ratio”. The “Flow Dynamics” calibration is what sets “Flow Ratio” right? Hopefully I fat fingered 0.2 as you guessed, and that resulted in 0.8 for my setting, should have been 0.98 if the correct line was 0.02?

Appreciate the assist. I’m not new to 3D printing, but am new to Studio and Bambu. My old MK3S just slowly chugs along without much tuning. But, then again, I wouldn’t have been trying a high end filament like this with it either.

That fixed it. I was able to run a Flow Rate test, I did not get the LA issue that I photographed in the OP. It was my error, and I’m thrilled you guessed that’s what I had done. Marking this thread solved. Love to buy you a beer/coffee. Seriously.

Jon or anyone, may I impose on your experience one more time. Do you know where the 2 standard calibrations, Flow Dynamics, and Flow Rate, are stored in the filament profile? I was assuming the first was “Flow Ratio” in the profile and obviously it has an effect, but where is the Flow Rate test’s value stored? Which is related to the K factor?

Edit, nevermind, sort of. I think I have it now, the profile’s “Flow Ratio” is set from the Flow Rate Calibration, or you can simply set it in the filament profile manually. The K factor on the other hand is mired under the hood IMO, not so easy to store. It can only be seen or edited via: “flow Dynamics” calibration screen > Manage Result. The either choose “New” and enter the K value, pick all the other related fields including the associated profile. OR, Choose L/R Nozzle > Edit/Delete > enter/change K factor there. Definitely not the intuitive place to get to it, there’s probably a reason I just don’t know, yet.

For others looking I saw a thread where one could enter the K value via custom GCODE so you could in that way sort of associate K with a profile, sort of: HERE
