Help with supports because this is getting riddiculous

Hey guys, I am struggling with supports for few days now (basically since I have the printer :D). Whenever I print anything that uses them, after some amount of layers extruder starts slapping parts of supports left and right. Whenever I want to print a model I have to cut it to absurd levels to make sure there are no supports anywhere.
Since I am new to owning a 3d printer I ask - which settings I can experiment with to help with support issues?

What I am printing with:

  • A1
  • Bambu Studio
  • Mostly defaults
  • Bambu PLA Matte

What I have tried so far:

  • Manual calibration
  • Different support types
  • Different model orientations
  • Different infills
  • Different speeds (normal and silent)
  • Different slicers (Bambu and Orca)

Adding screenshot of slapped around filament, graveyard of failed arms, and example of slices i need to do to print the same model:

try a lite coat of pritt stick (water soluble glue stick) the thing kids stick paper together with so there is a micro thing layer on the plate and can always be washed away with warm water . 100% success every time low cost solution

Thanks, but that’s not it, I have a very good adhesion, it seems extruder kicks parts of the top of the supports.

Is it possible that the nozzle is not fully seated or slightly seated to one side? I dont own an A1 just trying to help.

On the bigger printers the nozzle can get bent and cause this issue.

But then this would happen to all the models - but they print perfectly, only when suports enter the play then the model crumbles.

After following @Level23’s advice I set top layer interface to 0 and added .02 to my top interface’s distance I finally managed to print this particular model correctly - and not only was it succesful, but I managed to pool it off in ludicurous speed.

introduce some ‘Z hop’ under your filament settings. Worked for me and stopped the nozzle clipping the walls of the support (which is delicate at points_) also as mentioned here, try adding some gluestick…

Where do I get to the ‘Z Hop’ settings? I didn’t see anything in the filament settings.

It is not adhesion problem, they stick to the bed very well, they just break after few layers, like just snap in the middle or whatever.

Try here

Thanks! Don’t know how I missed the edit button up there. :man_facepalming:

I had a similar problem. With me it was a broken hotend. My hotend (nozzle) was cracked and depending on what my printer was doing (speed, retractions, extensions, etc…)my nozzle was sliding up and down, sometimes hitting the print and pushing it over…

Other possible thing could be a broken bed leveling mechanism… take a close look if the fail is at roughly the same x/y location. Btw, you can do the auto bed level and then manually check it…

Finally, check the bed and the print plate for any bumps, debris or bubbles. The print plate may have bubbles on either side that can cause these issues…even a poor adhesion of the print plate sticker can give issues especially on tall prints…

Also, before waisting a bunch of filament, print 5 towers (2 x 2 x 20 cm) 4 on or near the corners and 1 in the middle, all default setting and see which 1 gets hit…

can you tell me more about this, where can i found this setting? i found similar name but not sure is it the same or not, until now i’ve never failed print model but every time i print with support (especially object with lot of support) when at mid print, the nozzle scrape the support.

it was so long ago I dont remember anymore, but I think I was changing those two:

this could be because your print speed is massively limited by layer time. Inside filament settings, the minimum layer time option sets the min time (in seconds) a layer is printed for better cooling. So when you set your speed option in handy to ludi. speed, it will not overrride your filament settings and your speed will still be capped by your layer time and bc you have such a small print, I would assume at almost every layer you are capped by your min layer time and changing speed either on slicer or on handy does anything
