High-end 3D printers to print...flat things in 10 minutes

I noticed that there are thousands of “flat” prints, i.e. flat drawings, perhaps taken from laser engravers or simple vector files and extruded with Fusion 360.
Some may be cute, but most are really boring, it would be nice to find nice useful models or sculptures of interest.
I understand that not all Makers are but filling the site with flat things that no one downloads, without even a printed photo, then makes MW boring.

What do you think of this kind of models?

Nothing against the authors of these files, but it is to make it clear what I mean by “flat prints”

I think playing cards and card games are something there isn’t enough of. There are some pretty cool things you can do with four 0.1 layers. Here are a couple of regular playing card designs I’ve been kicking around. They both have a plain black back and are in no way see through.

One is just a bleeding card design but the other is what I’m calling the “Jenko deck” as it’s modelled after the classic scene from 21 Jump Street where Jenko is rambling about unobtainium and flux capacitors in front of a chalk board.

I would love to see more stuff like this…

These are very cute and make sense

If it has a Z index greater than zero, it is 3D

Ha !! Good point. Even my old HP had at least the thickness of the paper. I guess I have been 3d printing since the early 90’s :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Why is it that if someone doesn’t like some specific type of print (flat print, hueforge, trinkets) that they demand that they not be on Makerworld? The site isn’t here for one person. If you don’t like the model, just keep scrolling and don’t interact with it. Someone else may like it. Tolerance and having a 'thick skin" needs to be brought back from the dead…

I loved this model.

It’s “flat”, but, did exactly the job it needed to.

This was my one and only Christmas tree this year and the entirety of my Christmas decorations.

ps, I love that Santa poop emoji.

I look through the library and find things I like and things I don’t, that’s the good thing though, ideally everyone finds something they like and it would be impossible to please all of the people all of the time.

No one here said asked for anything to be removed.

The OP said they were boring, that doesn’t mean death to them, in fact they asked for pointers to other things.

Flat printed models are also available at printable, nothing new, just normal uploads!

Whilst my tastes for low profile models varies, there will always be a market for them.

I’ve printed off some coasters and wall plaques etc recently that I wouldn’t normally give a second glance, they softened my views a little and can appreciate them a little more (thanks to my wife for giving me the requests). I did play with a few and printed them in how I would, some face down and some added colours to 2D, it did provide more of a challenge which added value.

You should read the post better, no one forbids anything, it’s just a matter of opinion.

I agree some users are flooding MW with those kind of models. I have nothing against them or any type of 3d models. It’s primordial to me that a maker platform allows any designers to publish their creations regardless of their skill level or the complexity of their models.

Than being said I have a problem with designers that are doing bulk upload of easy models in the goal to gain more points. In order words, privileging quantity over quality.

That’s why I think MW should implement an upload quota (daily or weekly) to prevent or at least reduce those kinds of behaviour.

There’s no upload limit because MW is still after those sweet new uploads, it’s obvious because you get the most points for new uploads, that is also if you’re lucky enough to be seen by someone who hasn’t reached their download limit for the day.

Particularly for newbies having time on the platform will hopefully give them a better sense of what works and what doesn’t.

In the words of Steve Jobs, we have enough fart (alphabets, numbers) apps here.

At least ones that don’t add anything of value.

There is a huge difference between the often uploaded Times Roman alphabet, with each letter as a new model, and this one I found to be a perfect use of the AMS.

I liked their design so much that I added profiles for all printers as the designer could only add profiles for the A1 printer due to that profile issue that the A1 has‡.

‡ For those who don’t know; the A1 has a printable surface larger than any other printer because, while all printers except the A1 mini have a 256x256 bed, the A1 doesn’t have the non-printable notch. This means when you create a profile for the A1, it will not work with any other printer, even if the model geometry doesn’t conflict with the notch. Hopefully, a future BS will have a workaround for this.

Good finding, it’s super cool
Yeah that makes no sense to publish a font in multiple models. An upload quota, would force those users to publish this kind of models inside one print profile or at least inside the same model page ^^

I didn’t knew that, I only own an A1 mini. Thanks for sharing this

All forms of arts should be welcome. A good model is good regardless of the form. What creates bad experience is the spamming, some without printed photos, as mentioned by OP.

Hueforge or similar apps in the wrong hands is particularly troublesome. Because print lines, or the lack of, are not easily seen on flat models, it’s easier to tweak their render images to look like printed photos, or to intentionally blur the images to make it hard to see that the images are renders.

The ability to avoid having to print models makes it possible to create lots of them with little time involvement. This opens up opportunities to game the system.

For example, download trading becomes more efficient and harder to detect. Their partners can spread out the downloads among many models to avoid having any one model attracting attention due to too many downloads at one time. After points have been gained, the models can be deleted to avoid detection during points review. New models can be easily created to start the cycle again.

@MakerWorld may have reasons not to put down a daily/weekly upload limit, but I would suggest them to keep a close eye on these, or MW’s rewards budget can be bleeded badly and they may not even know it.

I’ve desgning, printed, and sold “flat” prints for people. Just because you aren’t excited by them doesn’t mean that others also don’t like them. There are plenty of examples on MW and other sites that are quite popular.

I do agree that anything you list on MW should include a printed photo.and i fact it’s listed as a requirement when you upload a new model or it says they might remove it. Maybe if they enforced that better you would end up with less junk that people are uploading just to try to hoard points.
