That is a good approach too 
. Start with the easiest and, if the result is not good, use the next level.
That is probably also why several methods are described, with different levels of effort.
The auto-process uses a higher hotend temp and has the risk of the extruder shredding the filament while also not bringing sufficient force to the cold pull.
But it is indeed neccessary to experiment a bit with the methods to get a feel for when which method is called for.
