Hot end disaster: screw got stripped!

A screw from the hot end stripped. I tried a screw extractor and it didn’t work. Any ideas? (Rubber band didn’t work)

Thanks

some pictures would be nice…“A” screw could be anything…

If I’m correct, looks like the hot end bolts into the extruder… so looks like a new extruder is in order. Not sure the brass inserts can be replaced, but it might be worth a try since its useless otherwise.

Bit of a bummer they went with brass inserts there. I wonder is there enough space behind to us a nut to hold in ? Looks like a plastic part that someone could design a better 3dprinted one at some point.

I would check if it is still under warranty to to the OP. As well I find that to be a defect of the machine if its been within the year.

I doubt anyone can make the claim of defect on this problem. However, I’m not sure where the stripping comes in at though. If the OP stripped the head of the M3 bolts, then they can get a Dremel out and slot a neat gap for a normal slot gap screwdriver, but if they over torqued the bolts and broke the brass inserts free, I think both will need to be replaced, extruder and hot end.

Hi Mike, I just can’t find a cutting small enough to get to it without cutting into the hot end fan…

I wouldn’t worry about saving the fan, they sell them for $10-15 IIRC. Also, that’s the side of the fan that doesn’t bolt to anything. It might be ok to damage that ear anyway. It doesn’t look structurally special.

It does suck that Bambu appears to be out of fans right now, so tread carefully. You may be able to cut it by leading in instead of dropping down, but that will take longer, likely more cut-off wheels, and have a higher likelihood of error. Personally, I’d just cut in to the screw and just try to minimize the damage to the fan. Granted, I have spares so I’m a little biased to just getting it done.
