I’m new to this printer and for the life of me I can’t figure out how to print PA6-CF from the spool holder (AMS says it’s not compatible if I put it in there) and the yellow/green PA6-CF support from the AMS? What am I missing?
Did it actually say “not compatible” or just warn you about abrasion? I put a spool of Bambu PLA-CF in my AMS and got that warning, which I dismissed. If you want to use the green support filament you will need to put the PA6-CF in the AMS.
When I first load it the AMS it says:
Then it follows with:
I guess I could choose PAHT-CF since that is compatible? If the print settings aren’t too different…
You are far from the first to ask this question.
The combo only describes the specification of the printer only (External spool holder without AMS), for the possibilities of the AMS you then have to go into the specific AMS descriptions on a page far away from the combo sales page.
If you go to the AMS specifications page you will find this:
According to my limited knowledge: Abrasive materials lead to high abrasion of the AMS hoses and sooner or later a whole spool will unwind into your AMS without anithing will arrive in the printer.
Bambulab wants everything to appear as beautiful as ever possible and goes hard to the limits of any descriptions or depending on point of view, far beyond the limits.
Some examples of : Amasing decriptions like Dual gear on A1, A Multi matirial system which is more a multi color system, Printable volumes that can only be achieved with modification and even then both eyes have to be turned a blind to get this 256x256x256 and so on…
In order to remain fair to the matter, I also have to mention: The X1 is still a printer extream hard to beat .There is absolutely no reason for Bambulab to hide such things or to sugarcoat them. And that’s exactly what makes this things so unpleasant. My personal impression, and this is very suggestive and can be anything but accurate (and for sure not a representative view at all): It is better to have one angry customer than to sell one less printer. Most people would probably buy it anyway, but the bitter aftertaste will remain forever.
To be fair, I also have to say that letting such materials go through an AMS wouldn’t be the best idea either, you should protect your AMS and should only use the printer. Think about how far the printer head itself can go too, there are may stronger printers that are much easier to maintain. Bambulab printers are very difficult to maintain, so you may not want to push the limits of what is technically possible. Maybe try it out and if you really need it, quickly start use a printer that is designed for it.
Did you try clicking Confirm and see if it let you proceed? My experiments show that if the AMS reads a Bambu RFID tag that it won’t let you manually set the filament type to something else.
Wow thanks so much for the detailed information. I understand what you are saying. I appreciate you taking the time to share this with me. I may try it but not use the AMS this way normally.
I will try that and see what happens. Thanks!
@Elinora, you are welcome.
just 30 minutes ago I saw a video of the FlashForge Adventurer 5M. Someone showed how to change the entire print head with 6 screws and 2 clips. Then quickly go to aliexpress for the availability of spare parts as well as for the entire print head.
Now I will going to have a coffee, come back and will pull the trigger.
In addition to the 360 USD, I add the 50 USD warranty extension from 2 to 5 years offered by the Swiss dealer (not the dealer as on the Youtube Video) and that’s it. Will then order some spare parts as well and be done with it for a while.
The print head does not have to be disassembled. The replacement head is available pre-assembled starting at 65 USD:
Update: Triger pulled - not really needed and searched for but a nice beckup and the temptation was really too great. How long have I been looking for information about easily replaceable printheads? I know the siwss dealer well (not the dealer as on the Youtube Video) - one phonecall and the shipping label is franked after 5 minutes in the email inbox. Print out the return label, take it to the nearest post office. Hand it in for free to the post office and wait until the repaired unit is shipped back. Of course the dealer doesn’t sell Bambulabs…
I’m printing with PA6-CF right now, but it was pretty hard to get the X1C to recognize it when fed from the back. I think that the filament is just so brittle that it was hard to get it to be recognized by the extruder sensor. I had to jiggle it around a bit while feeding it, but it eventually worked.
My go to source for filament / AMS info is the filament guide: Choose the right filament - 3D Filaments Guide for Bambu Lab Printers
That seems to have the best organization of that relevant info.
I also have PAHT-CF and I think the PA6-CF if more brittle which is why it might not work in the AMS.
Hey had this issue and found your forum , didn’t see much on how to trick it , but if you’re on mobile and or pc go to device and change it via that
HOPE THIS HELPS
