I tried the right click on the Preview page but there’s no change filament option that everyone says is there. On the Plate settings I tried using other layer filament sequence and telling it to change colors after layer 6, not sure if I have to turn off the pause in order for this to work, I figured out when you make something from Makerworld you have to turn off the pause and then turn it back on because it only gives you the option to delete pause placed by the designer. Once you delete it you have re-add it then you get the option to change filament colors. I left my semi solution on the thread since there were no other threads dealing with this except the “Change filament at pause without the AMS”.
How do you change filament mid print? At a mid print point without adding one ahead of time if possible?
TIA to all that respond! Your help is totally appreciated!! <3 <3

The option won’t show until you have more than 1 filament color loaded in Bambu Studio.

You have a few questions, I will try to answer them.
Firstly, @lion7718 is correct, if you are not seeing the change filament option and that layer doesn’t have a different command on it, you have forgotten to add more than one filament to your project.
You can only add one command per layer. You cannot have a PAUSE and change layer command on the same layer.
There are other ways to change the colour at a certain point in your print.
You could use the Layer Height Modifier option. It is less obvious if you have never used it, but, far more powerful than the change colour at layer height.
- Select your model
- Right click (show context menu)
- Select Layer Height Modifier
- Look on the objects panel (on far left underneath filaments)
- You will see a Layers element with your model
- Select that
- You can add as many as you need
- The from and to are in mm
- When you have added at least one, select it and change the colour next to it
- You can also change almost all the settings for this part only that you could globally
- Slice the print and your colour change occurs between the two measurements you provided
Using this method, you can control everything down to the model level, for example, this part could have thicker walls than another part of the same plate.
For your needs, you can control the colours as much as you want and very easily.
You can now use colour changes at the same time as PAUSE at layer.
You can also use this in combination with other colour change methods.
If you have a model with two parts and you set the colour of the main part to red and the secondary part to blue, you can also have Layer Height Modifiers change the red to yellow halfway up and the blue remains blue.

Thank you! I did not know how to change colors except the one way of changing the layer. Would you happen to know what the “Other Layer Filament Sequence” is for? I found it in the software by clicking on the bolt on the right side of the image of the build plate (the bottom icon of the 5 icons)?
I was under the impression that once you slice you can’t make any changes (my old 3d printer using Cura) other than the printer settings.
TIA

I do in fact, I have just finished setting it before I sent a job to the printer.
I print a lot of models where it prints upside down, I use the texture of the “textured build plate” as the top surface of my models once removed from the printer.
This means I cannot hide any issues with the accidental blending of colours on the first layer.
If you are printing with a mix of dark and light colours, and printing face down, the best way to aim for success is to print the lighter colours first.
This is controlled using the “Filament sequence” options.

The “first layer…” only affects the first layer. The “Other layers…” affect all other layers.
In my example, I am printing a 4-colour model, so I only change the order of the related filaments.
If all you want to do is change filament at a given layer.
-
add your filaments under the filament section in preview

Click on the number to the left of the filament to set the color of the filament.
-
slice your model
-
move the layer slider to find the layer that you want to change at.

You can see that I have the slider on the right set to 5.2mm. One thing to note is that this is really the layer that starts at 5mm and ends at 5.2.
-
right click on the plus sign on the slider and select change filament

(I selected blue for this layer change.)
-
re-slice the model and you will see the color change incorporated into the preview.

Note: if you are just changing filament for full layers this way then you can turn off the prime tower.
