If clever, you can try to arrange your model so that Color#1 is only present in the lower part of the model, and #5 is only present in the upper part of the model. You can then re-use that AMS slot for both, by using your hands and literally swapping the roll midway in the print after #1 is finished up.

You can achieve it easily as long as you have a maximum of four colours in any one layer.

Number of colors at a time

The AMS and external spool are not used in combination with each other. Depending on what you print and how you setup the job, you can print different colours further up the model by swapping out the existing colours (that are NOT being used during swapping) with a different colour.
