I just wish they had the range of colours I have from the rest of my brands.
None in the photo are from BL.

That looks hastily created for the purpose of a photo to deflect from the peelers.

Soooo, there’s this company called Paramount 3D.
They have some interesting colors. Nicely too, a lot of their colors are carried across filament types, like PLA/PETG/ABS. My custom printer I did, I printed in their iron red. It was awesome. PLA for some parts, PETG where I needed it, ABS where I really needed it. And it matched! Not always as common to find matching colors across filaments like that, especially more unique colors. I think Bambu makes their Bambu green in every filament type, haha.
They have some neat grays. Like Game Cartridge Gray, Prototype Gray. Those might be a little darker still than what you’re thinking. Worth checking out though! This company is one of my tops for filament. I love their color selection.
You got me, I brought everything Sainsbury’s had left for it and just rammed it in a few spikes to make it look passable
Ooooh I REALLY like those colors. After a while I feel like the super-bright primary colors of most PLA make things look cheap (cause they are lol). Those darker tones look great.
How should I spend my points?
I currently have the A1 mini combo and all the filament I need for awhile. I design most everything to print on an A1 mini.
I have $400 in points. No need for another printer really but having a 256mm bed would be nice. I want a core XY but love the A1 quick swapping ability and AMS. So I don’t know if it would even be worth it for me to save up for like a P1S combo.
Idk. I’d love some help on figuring out my next path of spending my points.
You want the P1S Combo. You’re welcome
I started my BL journey with the A1 mini combo then added the A1 combo.
The A1 recall gave me the impetus to get the P1S Combo, I added a second AMS unit at the time of purchase.
For a shortwhile, I had three printers at the same time. When the A1 finally went back, I found myself missing it.
So, I bought a second P1S combo, again with 2 AMS units.
I love the A1 mini, but I prefer the encapsulated style of the P series. It is tidier for a start. The extra AMS ability means I can be smart (more colours, autorefill) or lazy (leaving filaments in the AMS and rarely swapping them out).
I design for 4 colours (most often), but, I usually create profiles that work with PAUSE, 1 AMS or 2 AMS units. I also design for the A1 mini build-plate whenever possible.
If you are happy with the A1 mini build-plate size, then focus your points’ purchasing power on spares and filaments. You could even keep it rolling and be cash ready when the amazing whatever next comes out and laugh at the rest of us.
I was very much in your situation a few months ago. I ended up getting an A1 as my second printer and I kind of regret it. I have only used the larger plate once and it was when someone needed me to print multiple 24h prints. I could have done without it and just done more prints instead.
Having two printers is super useful even during the design process because you can iterate faster and you always have a spare if one printer is tied up.
But…I still design exclusively on the A1 mini. Ultimately it won’t matter given A1 and A1 mini have comparable features, but I wish I had spent the points on another A1 mini with AMS instead. I just like it more because it’s smaller. A1 + AMS is a beast of space-hog unless you mount the AMS on top of it, which in my case will make filament swaps really inconvenient.
[I hope my A1 didn’t see me type this…]
I’m basically in the same situation as you and I will continue to save more gift cards for the next three months or so. And see if they release a new printer.
If they don’t I’ll probably end up taking a P1S combo.
I don’t get that many points as I haven’t had a model go viral yet.
However, I tend to check my points before I go shopping, and if I have enough for a gift card, I redeem it or as many as I can and use it for whatever I’m buying.
To me, there is no real difference between using a gift card here and there, or saving up 10 and buying a printer. Also, I think I might have enough printers for now (I can never have too many, though!).
I’ve got a nephew who discovered 3D printing and I’m now saving for a printer for him. I’ve got enough filament and spare parts now to see me through the year probably.
For anyone just getting started, building a portfolio is key to this nonsense. The more quality models you have, even if not that popular, you can build a steady stream of points/boosts. Of course, that one model that goes viral can have it raining printers, filament, and parts.
You hit the nail on the head. Especially if designing is something you are going to continue to do. Once you get a large portfolio sky’s the limit. You could even start making actual money off of it.
I know I have a couple of loyal people who have boosted serveral of my models that are in a specific niche. Now it’s just sort of easy to create for that niche even if there are only 20 people that will download the model.
my house is full of filament!
