It has now been almost a year, and the previous flagship printer still does not support the AMS HT or the AMS 2 Pro. Has Bambu just abandoned these printers? The last firmware update for the X1E was 14 months ago, and that update ironically made it possible to upgrade firmware without an internet connection. A great feature if there is ever going to be another firmware update…
Bambu Labs, when can we expect a new firmware update? When will your new AMS units be supported? Why would anyone have confidence in buying the new H2E if you have shown you won’t continue support on the old units?
A rhetorical question, I suppose, given that Bambu has never justified (or have shown any transparency) as to why they do (or don’t do) certain things…
TL;DR: It would appear so. Speaking as an early 2023 P1P customer, I feel your pain.
The X1E was never more than an experiment - the only Bambu printer with Ethernet, aimed at industrial buyers and sold through resellers, now left to rot. Instead of sustaining products or offering upgrades, Bambu built closed ecosystems like MakerWorld, MakerSupply, and CyberBrick where you are the product. Even the H2D, pitched for manufacturing, still forces customers onto Wi-Fi and their servers. Contrast that with Prusa, who at least offers an upgrade path for legacy owners. Bambu chose churn over commitment, and that “eat your young” reputation is going to catch up with them.
Support for the X1E ends just five years after launch - even Apple and Microsoft do better. And while they could have won loyalty with simple improvements, they chose not to:
Color display
Ongoing MQTT support
Ethernet or USB options
Third-party controllers like Panda Touch instead of blocking them
Open BambuSource.dll for community development
Instead, H2 customers are locked in, and X1, P1, and A1 users only kept features after Bambu was forced to backpedal.
I reached out to Bambu through chat, they could not provide a date when the firmware update would be released. I too was one of the punters who bought a AMS HT and thought “compatible with X1 series printers” meant it encapsulated the X1E, jokes on me eh…

I also bought the AMS HT under the impression that it would just work with the X1E. Come on Bambu! Please help us out here.
Somehow, I kinda doubt that it will happen. Not saying that it might never happen, only that I doubt Bambu will release the required upgrades for the “E” model. Bambu appears to be very reticent in developing any upgrades for its older printer generations, unlike Prusa. In this regard, Bambu seems to be stuck in the same “loophole” with its Chinese competitors; rather than providing upgrades, Bambu chooses to launch new printers.
I just got an official reply from Bambu Lab Support regarding AMS 2 Pro compatibility with the X1E.
They confirmed that the new firmware for the X1E — the one that should include AMS 2 Pro support — has been postponed to Q4 due to ongoing testing and other issues.
So for now, AMS 2 Pro is still not fully supported on the X1E, but it’s planned for one of the upcoming OTA releases later this year.
Does the X1E work now with AMS 2? Nope. Therefore, it not supported at all at this time.
Whether Bambu will launch an X1E firmware/software update (which frankly is long overdue) in Q4, that remains to be seen… though personally I wouldn’t suggest anyone to have any expectations (or hopes in this regard) until you do see it released, user tested and proven functional.
My AMS 2 and HT work in normal mode, just like the AMS 1 — i.e. without the drying function.
We’re waiting until the end of Q4 and hope the update will come earlier.
At least it’s clear that the X1E project is still alive and not abandoned.
I have had to disconnect the H/T from my X1E as the equipment sees it as a 4-slot AMS. Super annoying to purchase something with promised support and still be sitting here months later with a useless brick sitting on my workbench.
Unfortunately, I can’t provide the archive because it isn’t stored on the printer’s memory card. I recommend contacting support directly — that will be faster and more reliable.
Are you sure yours works properly? Mine doesn’t feed properly, filament gets to excruder and then errors out saying blockage. I’ve tried this on multiple filaments, same issue. From what I hear this problem is across the X1C printers too. For me the AMS HT is effectively only a filament dryer, it is not compatible with X1 series Bambu printers for AMS filament feeding. Interested to hear if enyone else if finding the same issue on their X1E.
As of today everything works fine on my X1E. I print with various materials from PLA to PA6, and I also use the AMS HT — I haven’t noticed any issues so far. The printer is running almost 24/7.
Speaking as an early 2023 P1P customer, I feel your pain.
