I got my Bambu X1 Carbon in Feb and have over 2,000 hours on it. Print quality remains amazing! Any issues I’ve had with the machine were minor and with a little research completely fixable. Curious as to when we are supposed to replace the nozzle? I’m of the mindset that if it ain’t broken…
I’ve tried to search the Forum, but not necessarily coming up with a recommended replacement/maintenance schedule for the nozzle itself.
Personally, it depends on the nozzle and filament material.
If you use the hard steel nozzle, it may survive the printer if you don’t print abrasive filaments, don’t face any extreme clogs or have high-speed collision.
I will only replace it when it fails, i.e. print quality drop solvable exclusively by a new hotend.
I feel like my P1S printer has been just going through nozzles like crazy and I don’t know why. I only print PLA and TPU and I’m on my 4th nozzle in less than a year. I run it a lot but not constantly/not every day. I feel like the issue is always the nozzle because I’ll swap it out for a new one and start working again. Sometimes I’ll swap in one of the old ones to see if it’s really not working and the old one won’t work, but using a new one will. Any advice?
Cumulative 5400h across 2 consecutive X1’s but I lost count of the number of dead nozzles. Probably around half a dozen.
Crucially however, I lost all (!!!) of them to bending from warping and curling prints and the odd chute clog. Not doing a lot of abrasives on my Bambu’s though.
They are a consumable part, but as long as they don’t spend too much of their life scraping build plates, getting clogged with debris, or crashing into stuff, they will last thousands of hours.
I’ve gone thru 3 a1 nozzles in 2 years. 1 bent and damaged from a blob, and 2 clogs that I just gave up on and threw in a drawer for future me to deal with.
Brass nozzles can wear from abrasive filament sanding off the tip in as little as hours. Unintuitively, Glow in the dark is generally an abrasive (FYI check the label). If you want to wreck a nozzle for science, print a 50% grid infill 5 wall 200x200x5mm plate with a fiberglass filament as fast as you can. It’ll shave off about 0.1mm of nozzle height every time you print LOL, turn on “bed leveling” and rerun to keep it grinding away…
