How to alter first layer speed when using rafts

Hi anyone know how to alter first layer speed when using rafts? When using the typical first layer speed setting it applies this to your rafts first layer only and doesn’t effect the model?

Seems pretty dumb

I seldom use rafts, but I don’t see the problem.

First layer speed is adjustable to insure good adhesion to the plate. The first layer is part of the raft, not the model.

Yes but I would like to increase the adhesion to the raft, if I want to lower the speed I have to lower the speed of the whole print… seems silly?
Struggling to get a good first layer when using rafts, always looks as thou the first layer under extrudes… Any tips?

Don’t think there is much of a point to this, but use a modifier that covers the base and set that speed lower.

Yes i thought about this but i couldnt get the model to sit on top of the modifier? Do you know how

You do not want the model on top of the modifier. Modifiers need to overlap the model. They define a volume in which settings can be different than the rest of the model.

Here is a simple example, a torus, modified with a primitive cube to slow the speed of the bottom layer.
Donut raft.3mf (97.4 KB)

I only wanted to modify a single layer, so the modifier is scaled to z=0.20 mm, larger in x-y than needed, and moved so that the object origin (the center) world coordinates are at z=0.10mm, putting the bottom of the modifier on the plate. There is no “first layer speed” in the object settings, so I just reduced all available speeds to 10mm/s.

The two layer raft is then inserted under the model by the slicer, so the first layer of the model appears on layer 3.

I had play with this and didtn really work for me… I have found a solution now however. i simply installed and tried Orca slicer and it works perfeclty, the first layer is nice and smooth and peels off easily when setting the Z offset to 0.18 :grinning:
