How to Clean and Lubricate A1 Z-Axis Lead Screws

Hi,

Any advice on how to effectively clean and lubricate the A1 Z-axis lead screws?

  • I already know to use Super Lube grease or something similar

  • I see there are various helpful tools for other printers (eg the screw sloth model), but on the A1 the screws are very difficult to access.

My thought is to somehow push a lint-free behind the screw and shimmy it back/forth and up/down before adding fresh grease. This seems like a less than ideal approach, but perhaps what we’re stuck with.

Any other thoughts?

BLUF: Don’t over think it.

To your point, it’s that simple. Just use whatever clean rag/cloth/etc. you have and wipe away dirty grease and whatever accumulated in the threads.

Apply some new grease at a few points along the screw. Move the bed up/down a few times and be done with it.

Ideally just looking to make sure there isn’t bare metal-to-metal contact on the screw and any bits of something in the threads that could jam the screw while printing.
