How to define filament color as transparent

I noted that BambuStudio’s color picker does not have an entry for Transparent, nor does it allow you to enter the HEX code (FDFDFD in this case) for a filament. Is there any way to get around this to define a filament as being transparent?

Thus far I have just been using white as its only a visual issue, however now that I have both white and transparent PC in my AMS it would be nice to be able to define a filament as being transparent so I don’t have to remember what slot I put which color in.

MAC Solution:
I finally figured out that you can enter the hex or RGB color values directly in the MAC color picker. If your on a mac, select the the AMS filament position color icon (in my case 2) and in color picker choose the second icon and in the pulldown select RGB Sliders. Now you can enter either the RGB colors or in the lower right hand corner enter the hex color code.

I use pink since I will never consciously purchase pink filament for any reason. :upside_down_face:

Yeah you say that but then maybe you want to print Santa Claus tree decorations and suddenly it makes sense to do so

Wait, pink Christmas decorations? Are you European???

Well yeah (took me a minute to realize why you asked), but had fun printing Printables and this would be another one: Printables

When you figure out a way to select a color for rainbow silk filament, I’ll tell you how for transparent! LOL

Can you make a custom filament profile? I read about people doing it but haven’t tried. Someone was talking about it on Facebook…

At least I think it was FB.

You can edit an existing profile and change the name after clicking on SAVE. It will keep the original profile and save a new one with the changes you made.

to this day Bambu havent fixed this

Just curious, has anyone printed with transparent PETG from Bambu? If so, what does the color square show on the AMS? Also, based on the comment from @leenanj has anyone printed with Bambu PLA Silk Dual Color filament? If so what does the square show? Extra fake internet points for those that share with screenshots! LOL

I can give you answers tomorrow, but what I just now realized is the “opacity” slider that exist on macOS since a version of two of the slicers (or so I thought - might actually be a macOS update) are not saved in the profiles after editing

I thought it was new functionality in the slicers. But I just now changed my profiles for “Bambu PC clear black” to 0x000000 opacity 50%, and “transparent PETG” to 0xFFFFFF opacity 50%. And saved that. But when I reopen, they are opacity 100% so just plain black and plain white.

So perhaps time for a feature request…

Edit: opacity, not transparency.

You just don’t select a colour.

Interesting, I wonder why they don’t have an icon like that for color selection. I assume its because they aren’t overly concerned with 3rd party filament and for their own, its taken care of with the RFID tag.

As soon as you once used a transparent Bambu filament (with RFID) you can chose transparent color directly in the AMS menu on the printer for all 3rd party filaments.

edit: this is not the exact answer to the initial question but might be of interest

Oh cool, and interesting. Does this only work when a transparent filament is already in the AMS, or is it more like once used, “its unlocked” for all future use?

All Bambu filaments (again: with RFID ) which colors don‘t match to the existing palette seem to add additional colors for selection. As far as I remember, they are indeed kind of permanently „unlocked“

LOL we need to start a used RFID tag swap program. “Gotta catch’em all!”

Is that only on the touch screen? I can’t seem to find them from the device tab in the slicer. Or maybe it’s a difference between Windows and macOS.

Thanks for the answers here! I never thought to use the ‘Opacity’ slider in the MacOS color picker, I don’t know if there’s an equivalent on Windows, but it’s easy on Mac, you just pick a color (grey/white etc.) and slide the transparency slider. you can also use this for other translucent color filaments just pick a color and adjust the slider, shows through in the preview
