How to engrave your PLA prints with your H2 laser module

Do you have any pics of how the UV laser did?

The pokerchips are BL PLA Matte.
The PC is a mix of BL and Polymaker.

These are PETG and the unmarked are PLA-CF, all BL.

Note that all of the above were done with the same settings and basically became the baseline settings.
All this was done back in Dec 24/Jan25 when I first got the ComMarker Omni 1 and I wanted to make sure that I could indeed mark all colors and all the types of filament that I was currently using, especially the ones for the items that I was selling.
One of the things I’ve since, for my setup, is that for large engravings, I had to orient the fume extraction opposite the direction of engraving, otherwise it pulled the dust over the part and it settled in the newly engraved areas.
Probably not an issue for the H2D as it’s an enclosed environment and the directionality of fume extraction not as extreme in an open system.

Thanks for that. I just engraved on a piece of slate, and it worked great. About to try this on some PLA prints. Hoping a firmware update for the H2S is in store, so we can engrave on PLA Matte, which is my go-to Bambu Filament.

not sure if it’s been covered, but look but health risks when engraving plastics, just so you are aware before you engrave away…

Is there already a ticket regarding every single material a 10W or 40W blue diode laser can etch (or specifically, Bambu’s)? I am very curious in the laser’s capabilities. Possibly even having the ability to etch at different intensities or you can customize the offset of the focus for a more spread out, lighter etch. I’m no laser nerd (that’s kinda the reason why the H2D is my first laser cutter) but I have seen and used my local libraries public CO2 laser cutter to compare the softwares.

I’ve been trying to engrave some PLA for a few days now. I have an H2S with a 10W laser. Works excellently on slate, acrylic, leather, and all other materials; however, I cannot seem to get a successful engraved image or even a line or fill on PLA Basic Gold. I’ve tried multiple passes, running the laser at 100% and nothing seems to work. I followed the measurement steps as the original poster stated, but still had no luck. Did you change any settings to get success?

When you make a QR code from a YouTube URL, you should strip that last part off, so you just have the link to https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ , and that way your QR code will be simpler and easier to print / image.
