How to find out type of nozzle?

Hi,

unfortunately I mixed my 0,4mm used complete Hotends. One of them is a hardened steel nozzle. Is there a way how to find out optically which one is hardened or not?

Thanks
Oliver

The heatsink is the only indication of which one is which. The stainless steel is grey in color and the hardened is black.

The hardened steel is magnetic, the stainless is not.
Get a magnet and see if it sticks to the nozzle.

Good idea, especially if you have a hard time telling the color difference between the heatsinks. Had to chuckle at myself since I hadn’t even considered this myself.

Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately, both nozzles are magnetic … The only thing I can see is, the color differs a little bit. One heatsink is deep black, the other one more silver/grey.

That is odd, I just checked again and both of the SS nozzles I have are non magnetic. They have the grayish silver heatsink. And the hardened steel nozzles that I purchased as such have the Black heatsink and are magnetic.
300 series SS in non magnetic.
400 series SS is magnetic, not strongly but is.
I wonder if they switched the type of SS they are using at some point?
I wonder if the 300 series is the old or the new?
I bought my P1S in August of last year and the 2 nozzles that came with it are the ones I tested with the magnet.
400 series is generally cheaper than 300 series for the free machining types. (416 vs 303)

The deep black is the hardened steel and the dark grey/silver one is the stainless steel. If you place a magnet at the tip of the nozzle you should be able to feel a difference. Right above the nozzle tip is the heat block and that’s magnetic on all nozzles.
