The title may not be exactly what I am trying to achieve but it is best I could come up to describe my issue.
Here is what I am try to do, and here are the objects pre-sliced (in prepare tab). These will be eyes for a model, the red being the pupils.
Underneath them are two square holes which will fit into “pegs” on the face, also note that they are white which is important as to the cause of my issue you will see next.
When sliced here is the final look. Note that the filament changes 5 times, but as you can see there are no layers where the is white and red at the same time - well actually, there is but they are on the inside as you will see next.
This next images shows wha happens at layer 16, when it first switches to the red filament. You can’t see perfectly from this image but trust me when I say that the inner “square” which is white is on the same layer as the red. This then continues going up threw a few layers where it constantly has to switch filaments to account for the two colours at the same layer.
The cause of this is because the square “hole” is exposed to the envrionment and is white. This issue would not be present if the square peg hole was not there and this “space” would be inside the model and therefore not seen so would be filled using the red filament, and we’d only get one filament change.
I have tried several ways to try prevent this from happening. I don’t care what the colour of the inside is as it will never been seen when it is slotted onto the face model; of course Bambu Studio does not know this though and just doing what is expected. Ultimately I need that white inner square to use the filament red. I am looking for advice on how I meet do this, or if anyone has any idea how I might “hack” it to get what I want. There might be several ways possible so I open to anything at this point.
Here is what I’ve tried:
- Using the paint tool - This is actually what you see in the images.
- Using the paint tool to paint the inside of the square peg hole red - this simply can’t be done as the tool is not accurate enough and there is no way to know where the cut off is from when you should starting painting it red so that it slices on the exact same layer as the outer red
What I’ve ruled out:
Separating them (the red and white part I mean) into two separate objects, and joining them together afterwards in a similar manner to using pegs again. This would usually work, but unfortunately these eyes are only about 5mm in diamater (with the white). If I go any smaller (by separating them) Studio tells me that the items are too small to print, so I cannot use this approach.
Looking any advice no matter how obscure you think it might be.
Thanks,
