Apologies if I’m not asking my question with the proper lingo. I have two objects that are highly problematic. I have tried adding a brim and they always fail to print. I want to float them and fully build supports underneath them hoping that will solve the problem. If for any reason other than just learning. I have to believe this is possible but I don’t really understand how to achieve that in Studio. Appreciate the guidance.
If I understand your request, you want to suspend an object above the build plate in a manner such that it is cover beneath by 100% supports without contact with the build plate. If my understanding is flawed, please elaborate. However, what you are asking is very easy and common place.
The way this can be achieved is via the assembly function. As you probably learned, you cannot lift an object above the plate, it will fall down. However, if it is part of an assembly, the lowest point in that assembly acts as the anchor even if it is not connected to the other object.
Simple example using a sphere primitive with a cube primitive sized to 1x1x1mm.
Click on the Objects menu and then using CTRL-Click, select the two objects.
Now that it is part of an assembly, you can use the move tool to raise it in the Z axis and it will sta their.
Then turn on supports.
Notice that the 1mm cube really is background noise as far as the slicer is concerned. It will print that as part of the first layer and that the last you’ll see the nozzle move to that part of the build plate. Just remember to pick it off the plate afterward.
You nailed it.
I assumed there was a trick to achieve it. I wasn’t aware of using an assembly like this. Very helpful and perfect tutorial.
Thank you!!!
That picture certainly looks like the same thing. I have to test to see how to apply it to my two challenging objects.
OMG the Raft is exactly what I was looking for and it was super easy to do too. I didn’t even know about it because it is under Advanced settings. Thank you!!!
