How to get neater text on say a lid?

Hi guys. Any tips on how to get a cleaner or neater result when adding text to say a lid? In the attached pic you will see the text isn’t too sharp on the edges and there are spots of black in the orange in a couple of areas. I’ve recently upgraded (well I think its an upgrade) the nozzle wiper from the OEM shipped wiper to the silicone tube wiper (from memory on makerworld as the Ultimate wiper?) It gets the nozzle very clean. I’m wondering if an alteration to the gcode to do a final possibly an extended wipe before the nozzle prints a skirt brim would help keep the nozzle from dragging any unwanted filament to the build plate. Are there any settings that should be altered for the first few layers whilst the text is being laid down? Any help would be appreciated. I printed the lid at 0.28 layer height on the textured PEI sheet. I like the textured look. The 0.28 may be the first thing to look at I know. Thanks!

The most important part tune your filament retraction and wipe settings to eliminate/minimize oozing as well as stringing for non extruding travel moves. The best wiper in the world will not fix travel oozing.
I hope I don’t have to mention that dry filaments are a must ( Oh wait I just did mention it)
A Clean build plate a must as well, poor or mediocre build plate adhesion will have a big negative effect on appearance for something like this.

Plate settings - first layer filament sequence, from the looks you printed the black Letter inset before the outer orange perimeter, change sequence to have the perimeter printed first and see if that improves the appearance.

Also appears that you have a large qty. of walls on your first layer, try with “one wall on first layer setting” under “quality”

You would likely need the 0.2mm nozzle to get text that thin to be crisper, especially given the fact it is sunken into the print. I’ve always found it bleeds for me no matter what I try, but it is infinitely better with the 0.2mm nozzle. Only issue then is the print will take longer.

Also, 0.28mm layer height, as you suspected, would be first thing to change. Try 0.16 optimal if you want to keep print times respectable. You could even set it to change layer height just for the text portion. That way could do do the text in say 0.12 HQ which will slow the printer down a bit.

Guys, I appreciate very much your replies and will inwardly digest when i get a chance. Work has just got crazy.

Thanks!

If you offset the black layer one layer it gives a much crisper edge.
