How to have the AMS and spool at the same time?

Hi Guys. New X1 owner here. I have the AMS with my printer, as well as a few very large spools that cannot fit in the AMS. As of now, if I need to switch from a AMS spool to the outside spool, I need to unload the filament, unclip the PTFE tube going in to the printer, and reconnect everything. This is a lot of work, and surely there is a way to make this easier?

Thanks!

There are Y splitters all over MakerWorld you can print to solve this. I haven’t made one for myself, since I rarely print using an external spool.

The top hit is The Smoothy - PTFE Bowden Y Connector by JDJDJD - MakerWorld which looks like a well designed part.

Don’t print one, buy the 4-way PTFE adapter.

Completely forgot that hey were selling that. Given the option, I’d go with this over a printed model.

While I completely agree, the problem is that everyone is trying to do that… and they are not easy to get.

Most Y-splitters only cause problems. This 4-in-1 splitter from Bambu Lab works very well. Haven’t had a malfunction caused by this splitter yet.

I have been trying to buy the splitter for 3 months, never ever in stock, even though they keep sending me emails "now in “stock.” Good luck finding one, I finally bought one that works for the A1 and hopefully I can make that work.

Can you plug 4 AMS’s in the splitter and not use the Hub? Or doesn’t that work right?

I don’t use it that way. I have got the AMS HUB. I use the 4-in-1 adapter after the HUB with the external spool and filament dryers (S1, S2).

Okay, but how does the printer get the fillament out of the dry boxes? They are not powered right?

You have to feed by hand, same as external spool. Once picked up by extruder you can sit and relax.

Yeah, BBL released the part after I had already bought the A1 mini splitter. I used the splitter with a modified holder. Now I still use the splitter but have a modified buffer casing to take the splitter as it’s neater.
