How to make bottom shell water tight in vase mode

Hi. I’m trying to print a vase in vase mode using a 0.8 nozzle, 0.4mm layer height and 2mm line width. After reading and watching videos I found that changing bottom surface pattern to monotonic line instead of monotonic fills the gaps at the corners for the 1st layer. Doesn’t seem to have any effect on the other bottom shell layers though.

Also you can increase the infill/wall overlap from %15 to %30 or %50 but doing so seems to cause warping on the outer wall.

Increasing it to 50% does solve the holes on the edges. There doesn’t seem to be any holes and water doesn’t leak through the edges. But even using monotonic line and 5 bottom shell layers there seems to be very few holes right in the middle of the bottom surface which does cause dripping.

So I tried increasing the bottom shell layers from 5 to 7 and I don’t know why but this is the result:

The 6th and 7th layers looks like this. Does anyone know why it looks like that and what it means?

And I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on making a watertight bottom surface without warping the outer wall.

With which setting can I control this?

Also something I never considered is increasing flow ratio even though it is very obvious lol. I will try increasing it +0.01 until it is tight enough. If I’m not missing something this should only affect the bottom surface and shells right? Also would increasing the nozzle temp 5° have a positive effect?

“Filter out tiny gaps” I believe is what bambu calls gap infill. Arachne walls also helps.

I have found that when making vases, smaller layer height helps. Also running on the hot side of what the filament wants.

You are right. My apologies. If you can switch to orca, it has gap infill settings. Arachne walls may help

This is an example of how I run Vase Mode. 1.1mm x .2mm wall from a 1mm nozzle. The first vertical wall after the base, I slow down, for better adhesion and ramp up over the next 5 layers. This is running at 250c at .2mm layer height so each layer bonds really well. Im also running the part cooling fan at 35%. Just enough to prevent drooping, but not so high that layers dont bond. Also helps keep it shiny at high flow rates.

With a .8 bambu nozzle, I would run .9mm x .2mm walls. Lower layers for even better quality and layer bonding.

Wow I don’t think I ever went over 230c for PLA. Also I print 0.4 height 2.0 width walls and it’s working good so far. But I decided not to try to make it water tight with just printing, going to try an epoxy resin for the bottom later.
