How to mount COB LED Strip Light?

Connected with the recent “lack of information” thread I wanted to ask about specific item: COB LED Strip Light, codes KA007, KA008 & KA009.

I have idea that would use it, but how on earth do I make it go from base in the bottom to the top of the model? I was wondering about putting magnet on top of the model and glueing one stainless steel ball to the end of the strip since 3mm diameter ones are aval, but that’s 304 steel, so non-magnetic. I wouldn’t want to use 2 magnets since I don’t think glue on top will be strong enough to overcome forces produced by 2 magnets if anybody would like to take the model apart… Ideally I’d like to use only the items available in Maker’s Supply.

Also it seems that the only model using this so far is Augelight and it’s remixes and they use different methods than ones recommended by Maker’s Supply to connect and power the led

What about making a support where you slide in the strip and at the bottom you can glue a magnet?

Something like this (but much better )

BTW I see it’s really tiny only 1mm thickness less than a filament, probably you can make a knot

Good idea!

It’s worse - it’s non-uniform, the thickness is a bit like a rounded rectangle that’s 1.4x1.7mm and at the end there’s just like 1.1mm of non-glowing part, so whatever I’ll do, I’ll still need to cover it up… And it’s oh-so-filmsy where you could theoretically make a knot, but it looks as if the base material won’t be strong enough and would tear up from strain from the knot (and also it seems like it’d be spot for most heat generation and they do warn about heat on it…)

Next order I will put a couple of them I’m curious

They work great with potentiometer board. Dimmable light

Gotta try that now. Just got my Kit A

Side note: they mention heat, but I’ve ran experiment with the light at full power for several hours and it’s just a tad bit warm, so I think it should be fine…

In my experience the diameter is different based on the length ordered - the 300mm is widest. Because they have a rubber texture, I’ve found that use a channel to press-fit them can work well. Here’s an example using the 300mm in a project I’m working on:

Thank you for your valuable feedback. For the part near the PCB board, it is recommended to use two components to clamp it or fix it with glue. For the other end, you can use two components to clamp a short section of the light strip and attach a 4x2mm round magnet to it. The magnetism of 304 stainless steel is weak, so it is recommended to use the BT3x8 SHSS - AA108 self-tapping screws from Maker’s Supply to fix on the opposite side of the magnet. The carbon steel screws are able to provide appropriate tension to straighten the light strip without checking the magnet’s polarity during assembly.

Currently, we are collecting feedback from the community and providing user examples or solutions for similar problems. Later, we will provide more information such as suitable magnets, screws, and their spacing during straightening for each length of the COB light strip on the product details page to assist our creators.

Please let us know if you have more questions. We are happy to assist you and will improve the relevant information for each Maker’s Supply part.

Thank you! It would be great if you’ve put that on the COB LED page!

I’m currently working on something similar to what @michelem sketched in How to mount COB LED Strip Light? - #2 by michelem for the led part and indeed using screw for the other side

I was wondering what on earth that could be and I gotta say - you’ve surprised me! That mask looks awesome!
