How to move an object ABOVE build plate?

I’m trying to move an object up above the build plate. I’m running Studio 2.0. When I do this I can move it but Studio just drops it back down to the plate. My goal is to move this object up to the top of the column as shown here:

Ultimate goal is to move the selected object to the top of the column (placing it at X) and then use Mesh Boolean to do a Union of the 2 objects to give me the printable part I need. This should be doable but I can’t seem to get it to work. Appreciate any guidance anyone can offer. Thanks.

Add a raft … ? with layers

there should be a thread covering … but here you go

Why would I need a raft? Goal is to move the selected part to the top of the column. How would a raft help with that?

seperate objects join them in cad ? or try assemble if they fit together

If you merge them then go into objects you can move it without it snapping to the plate.

First you need to merge the parts to together (select both, right click, “Merge”)

Then use the assembly view button in the top right

Then “Assembly” (top right again or keyboard shortcut “U”) and select the faces you want to mate.

Once the faces are selected, click the “center coincidence” button

This will mate the parts

Click “return” in the top left and you will be back to the build plate view

Perfect! That worked. Thanks, I would have never figured that out myself. Are there any training options you can recommend to learn more about working with Assemblies?

I would start with the wiki.

I would suspect there are some good youtube videos out there as well.

Objects have to be joined together as an assembly to freely move one to rest on top of the other. Another trick you can do is make a .2 or .4mm tall cube, fuse it as an assembly to the part you wish to elevate, and then you can elevate that part and put it where ever.

Bambu studio is trying to protect a user from doing something like air printing because they unwittingly moved an object up off the build plate.

Most of the time when I added a small cylinder to be placed on top of my main item it could not be moved off the plate, and at other times it could. It turned out that if I right clicked the plate to add the piece it was a base item. However, when I right clicked the object that it was to be added to the cylinder could be moved up and down. Then the problem was to get its bottom just touching the base piece, not float above or be buried into.it. You can do a lot of arithmetic or try to slice it after a height setting. If it is not right you will you get an error.

You are awesome. Thanks for this.

Thank you, this solution worked for me perfectly!
